The Top-5 NFL Free Agents Remaining
by DS Williamson
Plenty of talented NFL free agents remain unsigned. Below is a list of the Top 5 along with teams that should sign them.WR Dez Bryant Formerly - Dallas Cowboys
New York Jets –The Jets hope to break in rookie quarterback Sam Darnold this season. Darnold’s progression will take a leap if he can throw the football to Dez Bryant.New England Patriots – The Pats just released Eric Decker, but they could still use Dez Bryant. Julian Edelman must sit for the first 4 games while Danny Amendola signed with the Miami Dolphins.
Los Angeles Chargers – The Chargers’ best wide receiver, Keenan Allen, often gets hurt. The Chargers cut tight-end Antonio Gates. Starting tight-end Hunter Henry is out for the season. Coach Anthony Lynn is so worried about the passing attack that he told running back Melvin Gordon to get ready for a bigger role as a receiver. There are decent NFL free agents Lynn could collect, but Bryant is a high profile talent that can deliver for Philip Rivers.
Washington Redskins –New Washington quarterback Alex Smith has decent targets. None are better than Dez Bryant.
Philadelphia Eagles –Wide receiver Alshon Jeffery remains on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. Signing Bryant takes pressure off Jeffery to return to the field. Added bonus - an opportunity for Bryant to stick it to Dallas twice this season.
CB Bashaud Breeland Formerly - Washington Redskins
Carolina Panthers – The Panthers had a 3-year deal for $24 million on the table. They pulled the deal after Breeland got an infection while on vacation. The Panthers want Breeland, but now they want him at a discount.New England Patriots – Bill Belichick penciled in Stephon Gilmore at right cornerback. Belichick hasn’t yet said who will play left cornerback. While with Washington, Breeland often played on the left side.
FS Eric Reid Formerly - San Francisco 49ers
Dallas Cowboys – The Cowboy might wait to trade for Seahawks’ free safety Earl Thomas after the season starts. Seattle could get more offers than just Dallas’. Why get into an auction over Earl Thomas when the Cowboys can sign Eric Reid today?Kansas City Chiefs – After Week 1, the Chiefs lost free safety Eric Berry for the season. Reid provides insurance at the free safety position should Berry again become injured. Also, Reid and Berry can play on the field at the same time.
ILB NaVorro Bowman Formerly - San Francisco 49ers / Oakland Raiders
Oakland Raiders –GM Reggie McKenzie told NBC Sports that he wishes to resign Bowman. The Raiders want Bowman to run the defense. With Bowman back, Oakland can pressure Khalil Mack to report. Or at least replace him.Indianapolis Colts –If they sign Bowman, the entire Colts defense could get better overnight. That's not saying much. This was one of the worst defensive units in the league in 2017.
DT Johnathan Hankins Formerly - Indianapolis Colts
Los Angeles Chargers - A front-seven that already promises to be electric with Ingram-Bosa could be bolstered by the veteran presence of Hankins. There's a ton of speed on the edges, and Hankins can help free that up by being a big, beefy reserve.Cleveland Browns - I mean, they've signed pretty much all the other NFL free agents, right? What's one more?
