Seahawks vs. 49ers: The best betting props for NFL Week 17

An adult seahawk can spot its prey from 130 feet above the water, hovering momentarily, before plunging feet first in to capture a fish that could be up to two kilograms in weight. That’s deadly hunting, and the Seattle Seahawks will be aiming for a similarly ruthless and lethal strike as they plan on stealing the No. 1 seed in the NFC.

Seattle will need the Saints and Packers to lose their respective games, but the one thing they can control is a win against a 49ers team that is overflowing with injuries. San Fran is beat up, with quarterbacks Jimmy Garoppolo and Nick Mullens on injured reserve. Wide-outs Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel, offensive tackle Trent Williams, defensive end Jordan Willis, corner back Richard Sherman and kicker Robbie Gould are all ruled out of Sunday’s game (4:25 p.m. ET, FOX).

The NFL playoffs are looming large and Super Bowl LV is within touching distance. So as we roll on to Raymond James Stadium on February 7th, here are the best prop bets for this Sunday afternoon showdown.

DK Metcalf Receiving Yards

Metcalf has gone a little quiet in recent weeks after an electric start to the season. In his first five games before the Seahawks went on their bye week, Metcalf had at least 92 yards in each. Since the bye, there have been weeks he’s been quiet (23 yards at Arizona in Week 7, 28 yards at the Rams in Week 10) and weeks where he has absolutely exploded, notably his 177-yard haul at Philadelphia in Week 12.

Another of those monster weeks came in Week 8 against San Francisco. Metcalf torched the 49ers for 161 yards and two touchdowns as Russell Wilson targeted DK 15 times – a season high for the wide receiver.

The 49ers will have had nightmares about such a performance, particularly as Metcalf went for 70 and then 81 yards against them as rookie in 2019. San Francisco hasn’t allowed a receiver to go for more than 62 yards in any of the last three weeks, but DK can buck that trend.

Pick: Over 68.5 Receiving Yards (-115)

Jeff Wilson Jr. Touchdowns

Raheem Mostert’s season is unfortunately over due to an ankle issue, but that has benefitted Jeff Wilson Jr., who has established himself as a key part of the 49ers offense. Last week against the Cardinals, Wilson got 22 carries in the backfield and ran for 183 yards – the only player to run for more than 100 yards against Arizona all year.

And that was no fluke from Wilson. In Week 7 – when the 49ers visited the New England Patriots – Mostert was sidelined, and Wilson was handed 17 carries. He turned those carries into 112 yards and three touchdowns.

The Seahawks have given up just two rushing touchdowns in the last five games. But in Week 13, Wayne Gallman found plenty of room, as he ran for 135 yards for the New York Giants. Wilson can do the same here, and find the endzone to dent that Seahawks’ stat line. The 49ers are projected to get 19 points, and Wilson is going to be the main focus of their offense on Sunday.

Pick: Anytime Touchdown (-105)

Russell Wilson Passing Yards

Russell Wilson opened the season by throwing for at least 288 yards and four touchdowns in each of his first three games. That is red-hot form that then went lukewarm, and in recent weeks has been a distant memory.

The line here is 246.5 passing yards, a total Wilson has failed to hit in six of his last seven games.

Going all the way back to 2012, here are Wilson’s passing yard totals against the 49ers: 122, 171, 142, 199, 236, 168, 235, 260, 198, 228, 185, 237, 232, 233, 261. In 15 games against them, he has beaten this line just twice.

The 49ers have the fourth best pass defense in the league, and the Bills’ Josh Allen is the only quarterback to throw for more than 247 yards against them since Week 10. I’m predicting a win for the Seahawks and a hot game for Metcalf, but Wilson may not light up the box score.

Pick: Under 246.5 Passing Yards (-115)
