The best goalkeepers in Premier League history
When it comes to the English Premier League, most remember the legendary goal scorers. However, there have been just as many incredible goalkeepers in the league’s history. Some of the best keepers the world has ever seen have called the Premier League home.
While Alisson has played tremendously for Liverpool this season, with nine clean sheets for the unbeaten Reds, he is going to have to do a lot more to go down as one of the greatest the EPL has ever seen.
Here is a list of the top five goalkeepers in the history of the Premier League.
5. Pepe Reina (Liverpool, Aston Villa)
Pepe Reina was a monster for Liverpool. In 287 appearances he had 134 clean sheets. His 47.02% clean-sheet average is the highest of any EPL goalkeeper with more than 100 shutouts. He lifted four trophies for Liverpool, he was the gold standard of goalkeepers in the league for nine years, and he’s still plying his trade to this day.
4. Brad Friedel (Liverpool, Blackburn Rovers, Aston Villa, Tottenham)
Of the Americans who called the Premier League home, Brad Friedel was the best. He made 450 appearances, with 132 clean sheets, and his power was in his consistency. He showed up every week and gave a great effort to keep his net clean. He even scored a goal when he played for Blackburn Rovers, one of the few goalkeepers in EPL history to do that.
