Top 5 most overrated EPL stars

The English Premier League season is well underway, and every weekend millions of fans turn on their TVs to watch some of the brightest stars in the world play. However, there are some players that get a little more shine than they deserve. They’re talked about like they’re the best players in the league when they don’t deserve that billing. Here are some of the EPL’s most overrated stars.

Marcus Rashford, Manchester United

Marcus Rashford has been in the lineup for Manchester United for several seasons now, and emerged as an 18-year-old back in 2015. He was deemed the next great English striker, but hasn’t really found the back of the net consistently. He has 48 goals in all competitions for United in 178 appearances, which is almost a goal every four matches. That’s not a great statistic for a forward who should be scoring at more than twice that rate to be successful. His most goals in a Premier League season is 10, and that’s just not going to get it done at Old Trafford.

Jordan Henderson, Liverpool

Fans of Liverpool will tell you Jordan Henderson is the most important player in the lineup every week. He’s the captain and the go-to. What most of them don’t want to believe, however, is Henderson does very little for the Reds. He’s not a scorer, he doesn’t hold possession well, he doesn’t pass to the right man and he’s not the best defender. He’s just the guy who fits in a lineup filled with other stars who can pick up the slack. Liverpool may love Henderson, but his value would drop considerably if he was in any other lineup.

Pedro, Chelsea

Pedro came in highly touted from Barcelona, but hasn’t fared quite as well for the accolades he has earned. With Barcelona he routinely scored more than 10 goals in a season. With Chelsea he’s only done that twice across all competitions, and at times he looks lost in the midfield.

Dele Alli, Tottenham Hotspur

Dele Alli has made more than 180 appearances for Spurs, but he shows stretches of ineffectiveness. He’s one of those guys that’s in the 18 every week for Spurs but doesn’t play much, because he can’t hold possession enough to create scoring chances. Still, he’s considered one of England’s bright young stars and is a national-team mainstay. He hasn’t earned that respect recently with his play.

David de Gea, Manchester United

Many fans consider David de Gea to be the best goalkeeper in the world. And then they watch him play every week. For every good save he makes that has the world buzzing, he has several incredible mistakes that cost his team points in the standings.

How he was the most coveted goalkeeper in the world at one point is amazing, because he rarely plays like a top-10 goalkeeper. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool the world every week? That’s David de Gea.
