The best forwards in Premier League history

5. Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United)

When Cristiano Ronaldo arrived at Old Trafford from Sporting Lisbon, he was an attacking midfielder. He began in that position for the Red Devils, then moved to forward in 2006.

He scored 118 goals for Manchester United, and could do it with his head or foot. Free kicks were incredible, and he seized seemingly every moment to give a superstar effort.

4. Sergio Agüero (Manchester City)

All Sergio Agüero has done since he arrived at Manchester City in 2010 is score goals. He scored the goal that gave City its first top-flight title in more than 40 years, and he didn’t stop there.

He’s scored 180 league goals to date (252 total for City) and still has time to move up this list.

3. Alan Shearer (Blackburn Rovers, Newcastle)

One of the greatest players in Premier League history, Alan Shearer dominated during his 14 seasons with Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United. He averaged 24 goals a season, scored more than 20 goals in a season six times, and provided some memorable moments for the Magpies.

When you think of the greatest players in Premier League history, Shearer will forever be in that conversation.

2. Thierry Henry (Arsenal)

Speed, style, flair, panache, killer instinct. Thierry Henry had all that and more. Not only did he score seemingly every week for Arsenal, but he left you scratching your head in amazement.

He scored 226 goals in eight Premier League seasons, and he did it in every way—headers, with both feet, and even with a back heel or with his back to the goal. He was spectacular in the open field, and his finishing was clinical. He’s one of the most exciting players this league has ever seen.

1. Wayne Rooney (Everton, Manchester United)

The Premier League may as well have been named Wayne’s World for 16 years. Old Trafford was Wayne Rooney's palace, and the rest of the league was his playground.

Rooney had 12 straight years with more than 14 goals, and he rose to be a giant, towering over every big moment. Against Manchester United’s rivals, his legend was secured. He scored massive goal after massive goal to give United a trophy room bigger than most stadiums. One of the most prolific strikers in history, no one could touch him at his best.
