El Salvador has had a pretty good 2019 so far, with only one loss entering the Gold Cup. El Salvador also beat Jamaica back in March in CONCACAF Nations League qualifying, a victory that secured its place in the Gold Cup field. The Salvadorans have a roster full of players who may not be among the best in CONCACAF individually, but as a team they know how to play together and can beat teams that are ranked better. Andrés Flores and Óscar Cerén will need to keep things moving in the middle, and Nelson Bonilla will need to score to give El Salvador the edge.Jamaica did not have a great start to 2019, including the loss to El Salvador that saw their chance to get into Nations League A slip away. But the Jamaicans defeated the United States in a Gold Cup tune up, and they have probably the best goalkeeper in the tournament in Andre Blake. They beat Honduras, thought to be the favorites in Group B, and they have to like their chances against El Salvador. They will need offensive firepower from Dever Orgill, who scored a brace against Honduras, and Darren Mattocks. They'll need Kemar Lawrence, one of the best defenders in the region, to control the back line and not allow any mistakes. Players like Leon Bailey and Peter Vassell will bring the speed and will be able to get behind the Salvadoran defense for scoring chances.
El Salvador will have its work cut out against Jamaica, and won't have the home-field advantage this time around to give them a boost. Look for this to be a slow affair that heats up with scoring chances in the second half. Jamaica will get one past El Salvador and Blake will get back in control with a clean sheet to secure a 1-0 victory for the Reggae Boyz.
