NHL free picks: Blues vs. Rangers, Bruins vs. Lightning

Tuesday night features an important Atlantic Division battle between the Boston Bruins and Tampa Bay Lightning on national TV. But first they’ll drop the puck at Madison Square Garden, where the St. Louis Blues visit the New York Rangers.

Both the Rangers and Blues have piled up goals over their last few games, so a high-scoring affair between these two clubs would hardly be surprising.
New York has 28 goals over its last seven games (5-2), and the Over has cashed in six. Mika Zibanejad, the NHL’s second star of the month for February, had 13 points in those seven tilts. The Over is 13-3-1 in the Rangers’ last 17 games against teams with winning records and has cashed in seven straight games after New York surrendered five or more goals the game before.
Brayden Schenn has been among the many red-hot players during St. Louis’ seven-game win streak, as he has scored in four straight contests. The Over is 7-3-1 in the Blues’ last 11 road games and 6-2 in their last eight against Eastern Conference opponents.

Tampa Bay has lost four of its last five games heading into Tuesday night’s crucial matchup with the Bruins but has beaten Boston in nine of their last 10 meetings. The Bruins are 13-3 in their last 16 games but have lost five of their last six as a road underdog. Instead of picking a winner in a game that looks like a coin flip, we’ll head to the totals market.
Tampa has allowed a power-play goal in seven straight games (62.5% penalty-kill rate in that span), so Boston’s potent man-advantage unit (second at 25.5%) should be able to take advantage. Andrei Vasilevskiy has been cold between the pipes for the Lightning, with an .839 save percentage over his last four starts. Look for Bruins forward David Pastrnak, who has 21 points in his last 15 games, to have another fine evening.
The Bolts’ scorers haven’t suffered without Steven Stamkos, which partially explains why the Over has cashed in seven straight games involving the Lightning. Tampa forward Nikita Kucherov is riding a 19-game point streak.
