Who will be the 2019 NFL MVP?

Winning a Most Valuable Player award is the most significant individual résumé builder any athlete can hope to achieve.

The award will never go to a player on a losing team in the NFL. Over the last 20 years, no MVP winner has ever played for a team that has won fewer than 10 games. More often than not the MVP comes from one of the best teams in the league.

Although he's only won two MVP awards, Aaron Rodgers has been the most valuable player in the NFL for almost a decade. Whenever the Packers are without him (minus the Matt Flynn game), his value is further highlighted. Bookmakers know this, too, with Rodgers' absence resulting in the biggest point-spread swing of any single player in the league.

Will Rodgers win the 2019 award, though? It's hard to think the Packers will be a top-three team, but I have to advocate for a wager on him at +900. He is the third favorite in current futures wagering, and for the most valuable player in the league, those are pretty good odds to win the Most Valuable Player award.

Another candidate to win the award is current favorite, defending champion and highlight-reel youngster Patrick Mahomes (+500). Mahomes dazzles, wows and wins. He is the deserving favorite.

Beyond these two favorites the prices get really enticing. The Patriots have the highest regular season win total in the NFL, which makes me think Tom Brady at +2000 is worth a wager. Jared Goff at +4000 looks awfully tempting, as he is the leader of an explosive offense and the Rams are expected to be near the top of the standings. I think both of these players are likely to have the team record, national recognition and offensive output needed to win the award. At these odds, I hope I'm right.
