Which Super Bowl team should you root for?
The Kansas City Chiefs dominated the league all season and are now one win away from defending last year’s Super Bowl title.
All Patrick Mahomes and company need to do is defeat the "final boss," Tom Brady, who will appear in his 10th Super Bowl and first with his new team, Tampa Bay.
Brady, a six-time Super Bowl champion, is set to make history on Feb. 7 as the oldest quarterback (43 years, 188 days) to start the big game. His counterpart, Mahomes, will become the youngest quarterback, at age 25, to start two Super Bowls, and could end up the youngest to collect two titles — which would beat Brady’s record, set at age 26.
The Chiefs and Bucs already met once this season, in Week 12. The result was just a three-point victory for K.C., but the team led by as many as 17 points at the end of the first quarter, and again in the third.
With Tampa Bay playing on its home field (the first team to do so in a Super Bowl), the Chiefs are still a three-point favorite. Although, the score is expected to stay much closer throughout the game.
Should Kansas City win next Sunday, it would become the first team to repeat as Super Bowl champions since Brady’s former team, New England, accomplished the feat in 2003 and 2004.
Should Tampa Bay triumph, it would mark the franchise’s second Super Bowl title and first for head coach Bruce Arians. The Bucs’ first championship came in 2002 under former head coach Jon Gruden.
You may not typically cheer for either team, or you may only watch football once a year, during Super Bowl Sunday. But you still need to pick a side to pull for, or else what fun is it to sit through a three-hour game?
