Vikings vs. Chiefs: NFL preseason betting odds, preview, and pick
The Kansas City Chiefs are 2-0 in the preseason and will look to make it a clean sweep when they host the Minnesota Vikings on Friday night.
Let's take a look at the matchup and formulate a pick.
The Chiefs have secured wins against the San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals during the preseason, while the Vikings have lost both their games, to Denver Broncos and Indianapolis Colts.
Vikings' woes on the offensive line
The Minnesota offensive line appears to be a significant weakness. It was 26th in Pro Football Focus’ overall rankings in 2020, and there isn’t much of an upgrade in store for 2021.
The Vikings' first-round pick was tackle Christian Darrisaw, but he has undergone two groin surgeries, and he is questionable for this game.
Vikings rookie tackle Christian Darrisaw was given a 2-3 week recovery timeline from his Aug. 12 surgery, per the Star Tribune’s Andrew Krammer. https://t.co/sfa2SG5dnp

There is offensive talent at the skill positions, with Dalvin Cook, Adam Thielen, and Justin Jefferson, but if the line can’t hold up, it will make for a frustrating year in Minnesota.
Mahomes’ minutes
Kansas City head coach Andy Reid likes to stick to a script when it comes to the preseason. His starters play increasing minutes with each week.
If that holds true this year, look for Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes to see at least a full half in this matchup.

While the Chiefs look for replacement receivers to make up for the departed Sammy Watkins, Mahomes should get an opportunity to stretch his legs (and arm) in pursuit of a good fit. Byron Pringle, Daurice Fountain, and Demarcus Robinson will likely be given the opportunity to play prominently against the Vikings. Mahomes had 18 pass attempts in Week 2 of the preseason, and will surely come close to that total in Week 3.

Mahomes will be the difference for Chiefs
The Vikings have trouble on the offensive line and their talented receivers are banged up. There is no reason or need to force starting wide receivers into action in the final preseason game, so look for the Vikings offense to be anemic on the road.
Mahomes should get plenty of opportunity to sling it deep and test the timing with his new receiver options. All it will take is one or two big plays to put this game out of reach.
Score Prediction: Chiefs 21, Vikings 10.
NFL preseason pick: Chiefs -4.5
