Tua Tagovailoa's record against every NFL team
During the 2022 NFL season, the future of Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa became a polarizing topic of discussion after he suffered an apparent concussion on Thursday Night Football against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 4. Sidelined through Week 7, Tua's injury not only prompted a review of the NFL's concussion protocol policy, but had NFL fans, experts, and Tua himself questioning whether he should ever play another snap.
Tagovailoa decided to return in 2023, however, and has seemingly silenced his doubters in his fourth year in the league. As the leader of Miami's record-breaking offense, Tua currently ranks first in the NFL in passing yards (2,416), quarterback rating (108.8) and is tied for the most touchdown passes (18) through Week 8. The Dolphins also lead the league in yards per game (301.5) and points per game (33.9), while Tua sits atop the NFL MVP odds at +400.
In Week 9, he'll square up with two-time NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs in a highly anticipated international matchup in Frankfurt, Germany, where Tua could further separate himself from the pack in the race to win the Most Valuable Player award.
With a current 27-15 record as a starter, let's look back on Tagovailoa's young career as we break down his regular-season record against every NFL franchise and highlight some of his top performances.

Tua vs. the Baltimore Ravens
One of Tua's best games of his career occurred in Week 2 of the 2022 season, when the former Alabama QB threw for a career-high 469 yards and six touchdowns in a 42-38 come-from-behind victory in which Miami trailed by 21 points entering the fourth quarter. With his six-touchdown outing, Tua tied Bob Griese and Dan Marino for the Dolphins' single-game franchise record for touchdown passes. Tua was also named AFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 2.
A season prior, Tua got his first career win against Baltimore when coming off the bench to relieve Jacoby Brissett. Tagovailoa completed eight of 13 passes for 158 yards and ran for a score in a 22-10 upset win.
Tua vs. the Buffalo Bills
Tua may be undefeated against AFC East foes New England and New York, but he's had plenty of issues with divisional rival Buffalo, going 1-5 for his career through Week 8 of the 2023 season. In Week 17 of 2020, Miami needed a win over Buffalo to reach the playoffs, but unfortunately for Tua, his 361 yards through the air were mixed with three interceptions, as Miami lost 56-26.
The following season, Tua suffered a rib injury against the Bills in Week 2 and was later placed on injured reserve.
In Week 3 of 2022, Tua briefly exited the game against Buffalo with what the Dolphins originally labeled a head injury, then claimed to be back and ankle issues, allowing Tua to return to the game following an evaluation. Miami would go on to win 21-19, but the NFLPA later launched an investigation of the Dolphins after speculating Miami had violated concussion protocols by letting Tagovailoa re-enter the contest.
Tua vs. the Cincinnati Bengals
A week after Tua returned to play in the win over Buffalo in Week 3 of the 2022 season, he went down in the first half of a Thursday Night Football matchup with Cincinnati and was transported to a local hospital with head and neck injuries.
In 2020, Tua also faced Cincinnati when returning from a thumb injury and racked up 296 yards and a touchdown in a 19-7 win. Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow — who was selected first overall in the 2020 NFL Draft over Tua — was sidelined with a season-ending ACL tear.
Tua vs. the Denver Broncos
One of the most shocking performances of the 2023 season saw the Dolphins annihilate the Denver Broncos 70-20 in Week 3, as Tua threw for 309 yards and four touchdown passes, while Miami added 350 yards on the ground. In the process, the Dolphins became the fourth franchise in NFL history to score 70 points, and were two points shy of the all-time regular-season record set by Washington in 1966 with 72 points.
Combining his Broncos feat with his 466-yard, three-touchdown outing in Week 1 against the Los Angeles Chargers, Tua was named AFC Offensive Player of the Month for September.

Tua vs. the Kansas City Chiefs
The only other time Tua has faced the Chiefs, prior to their game in Frankfurt, was Week 14 of the 2020 season, when Miami lost 33-27 as Tua surpassed the 300-yard passing mark for the first time in his NFL career. He added two touchdown passes and a rushing score, and was named NFL Rookie of the Week for a second straight week following his performance.
Tua vs. the New England Patriots
Somewhat surprisingly, since Tua joined Miami, he's managed to beat six-time Super Bowl-winning dynasty New England all six times he has faced them so far.
In 2022, after the Dolphins hired Mike McDaniel as head coach, Tua opened the season against the Patriots by completing 23 of 33 passes for 270 yards and a touchdown in a 20-7 victory.
New England won the rematch later that season, but Tua was ruled out for the Week 17 and Week 18 games against New England and the New York Jets, respectively. The Dolphins still managed to clinch the AFC's final playoff berth and reached the postseason for the first time since 2016. Tua was not cleared to return for Miami's 34-31 wild-card loss to the Bills. He finished the season with 3,548 yards through the air, 25 touchdown passes, and eight interceptions with an 8-5 record through 13 games played.
Tua vs. the New York Jets
Tua has been just as dominant against division rival New York, having earned a 3-0 mark. He also made his career debut against the Jets in Week 6 of the 2020 season while replacing starter Ryan Fitzpatrick in the fourth quarter of a 24-0 victory.
Tua was named the starter in Week 8 of the 2020 season against the Los Angele Rams and was strip-sacked by Aaron Donald on his first pass attempt of the game.
In 2021, Tua beat the Jets 24-17 behind a 273-yard, two-touchdown showing to hand Miami its first seven-game win streak since 1985.
