The Dallas Cowboys remain America’s Team
Aside from owning the largest fanbase in Texas, naturally, the Dallas Cowboys are the predominant team associated with six other U.S. states: Alabama, Arkansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Utah.
Jerry Jones’ team is also the most valuable sports team in the world, with a valuation worth $9.2 billion.
In 2023, Forbes reported that the Cowboys generated the most revenue ($1.1 billion) and operating income ($500 million) in the NFL. There were also four NFL franchises that rose at least 20% in value over the previous year — the Tennessee Titans (now worth at least $4.4 billion), the Cleveland Browns ($4.62 billion), the Miami Dolphins ($5.7 billion), and the Las Vegas Raiders ($6.2 billion).
New England Patriots boast most Twitter followers
When it comes to social media following, a report by Statista showed the New England Patriots actually drew more Twitter followers to their official team account compared to any other NFL franchise, with 4.68 million in April of 2024.
Just behind New England was Dallas, with 4.41 million, then the Philadelphia Eagles, with 3.89 million. The Pittsburgh Steelers rank fourth (3.76 million), and the Carolina Panthers are somewhat surprisingly fifth, with 3.08 million.
Bottoming out the list was the Los Angeles Rams (1.25 million), the Arizona Cardinals (1.16 million), the Los Angeles Chargers (1.12 million), the Tennessee Titans (1.07 million), and the Jacksonville Jaguars (870,000).
NFL teams by county
Breaking it down by county, the Chiefs reign supreme in the U.S., with 292 counties favoring Kansas City more than any other team when purchasing tickets to NFL games, based on Vivid Seats' 2022 NFL ticket sales data. In second is Dallas, with 287 counties searching for seats to Cowboys games, according to ticket sales.
In the state of California, San Francisco is top dog with 45 counties accounted for, while the L.A. Chargers counted just six counties. And it may come as a surprise that the New York Giants topped ticket sales in California in the city of Alpine, and the Jets were most popular in Modoc, just on the border of Oregon.
The Eagles are slightly more popular than the Steelers in Philadelphia, with 25 counties to Steeler Nation's 23. The Buffalo Bills also boasted six counties along the Pennsylvania-New York border.
As for truly strange allegiances in the Western part of the country: The Tennessee Titans claim Lemhi County in Idaho, and the Eagles are the most popular team by ticket sales in Valley County, Idaho.
