Super Bowl LV odds update: Seahawks’ price slashed following Week 16 win
The Seattle Seahawks took the most noticeable week-over-week drop in odds to win Super Bowl LV, going from +1400 to +1000 heading into Week 17. Let’s examine the reasons behind the dramatic shift, as well as the movements of some of the other contenders.
Favorites to win Super Bowl LV
Team Name | Odds |
---|
Kansas City Chiefs | +200 |
Green Bay Packers | +500 |
New Orleans Saints | +750 |
Buffalo Bills | +900 |
Seattle Seahawks | +1000 |
Seahawks wrapped up division crown in Week 16
There were still scenarios that Seattle would miss the 2020 playoffs with a loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 16, but instead they won and clinched the NFC West for the fifth time in the Pete Carroll era.

The Seahawks do not boast the “Legion of Boom” defense that secured a Super Bowl XLVIII victory, but this unit has improved from a bottom-five ranking to 23rd in yards allowed per game. Most importantly, quarterback Russell Wilson is having another incredible season, tossing the second-most touchdowns in the NFL (38). As long as he’s healthy, Seattle will always have a fighting chance against any team.
Week 17 should not change much for the Seahawks, so bettors may want to wait until next week to pull the trigger on a wager here. But +1000 odds are enticing.
Chiefs’ odds up a tick following close shave with Falcons
The Kansas City Chiefs are still favored to repeat as Super Bowl champs, but their odds went from +175 to +200 following a narrow 17-14 home victory over the Atlanta Falcons. It was the seventh straight game in which Patrick Mahomes and company won but failed to cover.

The Chiefs have already clinched the No. 1 seed in the AFC, so they may wave the white flag to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 17 and rest some starters ahead of their upcoming bye week. Don’t expect their odds to move much until they play in the divisional round.
Kansas City is not a great value bet, but they’re still an obvious contender.
Packers, Saints drawing closer to Kansas City
The Green Bay Packers and New Orleans Saints each dropped a half-point following facile Week 16 victories, moving to +500 and +750, respectively.
The Packers crushed a 10-win Tennessee Titans team 40-14 on Sunday Night Football, solidifying their claim to the No. 1 seed in the NFC. They are deserving of second-choice status in this market.

The Saints manhandled the Minnesota Vikings on the strength of six rushing touchdowns from Alvin Kamara on Christmas Day. That is hardly sustainable, so watch what Drew Brees and company do for an encore in Week 17 against the Carolina Panthers for a clue on their potential postseason fate.
