Super Bowl LV odds update: Rams, Browns take biggest hits after Wild Card Weekend

It was an exciting Wild Card weekend, as underdogs went 4-2 against the spread and even won a couple of games outright. The Los Angeles Rams upset the Seahawks in Seattle on Saturday, while the Cleveland Browns pulled off a stunning victory in Pittsburgh over the Steelers on Sunday.

Consequently, their odds came down significantly ahead of the divisional round. Let’s dive into the most significant movements in the Super Bowl LV futures market.

Browns visit class of AFC next week

The Browns were a +5000 proposition to win the Super Bowl ahead of their matchup with the Steelers, and now they’re just +2500 following their victory. Not to take anything away from Cleveland fans following their team’s first playoff win since 1995, but Pittsburgh did end up losing five of their last six games down the stretch.

The Browns will now head to Kansas City to take on the defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes and company lost only two games all year (and one was in Week 17 with the regulars on the bench), but their 6-9-1 spread record suggests there were plenty of close shaves.

It’s possible that the Chiefs are a step below where they were last year, and that opens the door for a Cleveland upset. Browns bettors had best get in now before their club takes another dramatic drop.

Rams still face rough road ahead

The Rams took a drop similar to Cleveland, as they were +3300 when the playoffs started, but now they’re only +1600. Their No. 1 overall defense did its job in a 30-20 victory over the Seahawks, but now they’ll face arguably their toughest assignment of the season as they visit the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field.

It’s tough to envision Jared Goff and company matching strides with Aaron Rodgers and his No. 1 scoring offense, so L.A. fans might want to hold off here. There’s no value in a losing ticket.

Saints moved most of higher-seeded teams

Outside of the Browns and Rams, the remaining six teams moved either one point or less, with the exception of the New Orleans Saints.

Sean Payton’s squad was +750 when the playoffs began, but are only +600 now, tied with the Buffalo Bills for third-choice. They did what they were supposed to do in their 21-9 victory over the Chicago Bears without really impressing, but it was good to see Michael Thomas make a significant impact for the Saints (five catches, 73 yards, one touchdown).

If you didn’t bet them last week, it’s not too late to get aboard, albeit at a reduced price.
