Patrick Mahomes' Super Bowl Wins, Years, Teams, Scores, Stats, and More
In his seventh season in the NFL, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will return to the Super Bowl for the fourth time when he faces the San Francisco 49ers, the team he defeated in his first Super Bowl start in 2019.
Ahead of Super Bowl LVIII, YouBet does a deep dive into Mahomes' past Super Bowl appearances, including his pair of victories, past opponents, stat lines, and more.
In what years has Patrick Mahomes played in the Super Bowl?
In just his third season in the league, and second as a full-time starter, Mahomes reached Super Bowl LIV, where he defeated the 49ers in a come-from-behind win on Feb. 2, 2020.
He returned to the big game the following year, but came up short of a title defense.
At the conclusion of the 2021 season, Kansas City was knocked out of the championship round by the eventual Super Bowl runners-up, the Cincinnati Bengals, before Mahomes once again made it to the Super Bowl following the 2022 season and collected his second ring.
On Feb. 11, 2024, at the age of 28, Mahomes will play in his fourth Super Bowl, which ties the fourth-most appearances by a player in NFL history. Tom Brady is first with 10 appearances.
Mahomes joined the NFL in 2017 as the No. 10 overall draft pick of the Chiefs but played backup to Alex Smith in his first season, in which Kansas City finished with a 10-6 record and exited the wild-card round with a 22-21 loss to the Tennessee Titans.
The following season, with Mahomes assuming full-time starting duties, the Chiefs made it to the AFC Championship Game, where they were sent packing by Brady and the New England Patriots, who went on to win Super Bowl LIII.
Through the 2023 season, Mahomes has reached the AFC Championship Game in every year he has been a starter for Kansas City.

Mahomes bounced back in Super Bowl LVII with a near-perfect game. He completed 21 of 27 passes for 182 yards and three scores, while he ran for 44 yards on six attempts. He finished with a 96.3 QBR all while playing on a sprained right ankle.
Patrick Mahomes Super Bowl accolades
Mahomes has won Super Bowl MVP both times he led the Chiefs to Super Bowl titles. Three other players have collected two Super Bowl MVP awards: Eli Manning, Terry Bradshaw, and Bart Starr. Former Niners quarterback Joe Montana has three Super Bowl MVPs, and Brady is the record-holder with five, four of which came with New England.
Mahomes is also a two-time NFL MVP winner. He won his first award in 2018, the year Kansas City exited the playoffs in the AFC championship, and received his second award in 2022, ahead of his second Super Bowl win.
Eleven players in history have won the NFL MVP and the Super Bowl in the same year, including seven quarterbacks (Bart Starr, Terry Bradshaw, Joe Montana, Steve Young, Brett Favre, Kurt Warner, and Mahomes). The non-quarterbacks to achieve the feat are placekicker Mark Moseley, Lawrence Taylor, and Terrell Davis.
