NFL Week 6 Results Good for Home Underdogs

NFL Week 6 results produced some more surprises in the NFL, as home underdogs on Sunday went 3-2 SU and 4-1 ATS. That runs the record of home underdogs to 20-10 against the spread (ATS) this season. The only home dog that failed to cover Sunday was Tennessee, and the Titans were a dog with no bite and rolled over in a 21-0 shut out by Baltimore. The Titans had just 7 first downs and 106 total yards in an embarrassing home showing and the Ravens racked up a franchise record 11 sacks of QB Marcus Mariota.
The biggest upset of the day from a point spread perspective was the Dolphins 31-28 win over the Bears in overtime. Chicago was steamed up to a 7-point favorite with the news that Miami QB Ryan Tannehill would not play. But Brock Osweiler filled in quite well passing for 380 yards and 3 touchdowns in the victory. This was one of the stranger NFL Week 6 results, especially given that Chicago was coming off their biggest win of the season.
But the most impressive upset of the day was in Dallas, where the Cowboys (+3) put a jolt in the Jaguars. Running back Ezekiel Elliot rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown while QB Dak Prescott passed for 183 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 82 yards and another touchdown. The Dallas defense did its part holding Jacksonville to 204 total yards.
The game of the month - and perhaps the year - with the biggest betting action was in New England where the Patriots and Chiefs game lived up to its hype Sunday night. The Patriots closed a 4-point favorite and the highest posted total of the season reached 59.5 points. But the shootout easily surpassed the total with the Patriots winning 43-40 and holding off a fierce Chiefs rally after New England led at halftime 24-6. The quarterback battle of the young upstart Patrick Mahomes and 41 year old, 5-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady was also spectacular, as Mahomes rallied the Chiefs with 352 passing yards and 4 touchdowns while Brady passed for 340 yards and 1 touchdown.
The passing yards, completions, attempts, yards per pass (9.8) and QB Rating (110) were nearly identical across the board. The Chiefs were forced to pass more playing from behind in the second half, but the Patriots did not register a single sack of Mahomes in 36 drop backs and pass attempts. But New England was stronger overall in the stats with better balance and 173 rushing yards and 31 first downs to 18 for the Chiefs. New England also controlled the ball for 36 minutes and incredibly the Patriots were not called for a single penalty.
In Week 7, New England plays at Chicago while Kansas City hosts Cincinnati Sunday night with all four teams at least tied or leading their division.
