NFL Week 2 Monday Night Football Betting (Seattle vs. Chicago)
by BetAmerica Staff
The Chicago Bears host the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football with both teams looking for their first win of the season. Chicago is coming off a disheartening defeat where they, let a lead over rival Green Bay slip away in Week 1, while the Seahawks allowed Denver to overtake them on Sunday. Will the Seahawks or Bears triumph in NFL Week 2 Monday Night Football betting? The main question facing bettors is this: do you trust Russell Wilson on a team that is missing so many key pieces, or a Chicago Bears team that is pretty flushed out in most respects but has a quarterback in Mitchell Trubisky that does not instill complete confidence? Let's dive in.
NFL WEEK 2 MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL BETTING Seattle Seahawks at Chicago Bears Monday, September 17th – Soldier Field – 8:15pm ET Odds: Chicago -3.5 (43)
Seahawks Offense vs Bears Defense It’s hard to knock the Seahawks offense after it scored 24 points against a decent Denver defense in Week 1, but that’s what I must do. Seattle’s offensive line gave up 6 sacks and allowed so much pressure that quarterback Russell Wilson threw 2 interceptions. Not only that, but Seattle’s rushing attack only generated 64 yards from 16 rushing attempts. You want to know how bad Seattle did in Week 1 despite Wilson's output? They only managed 13 first downs, the second fewest in Week 1 (Buffalo had 10).If not for Denver quarterback Case Keenum throwing 3 interceptions, the Broncos might have beaten Seattle 27-0. The Seahawks have always employed a "big hit" style of attack, and it was on full display last weekend when Wilson notched three touchdowns that went for 20 yards, 54 yards and 15 yards. Seattle’s offensive woes should be on full display this Monday night versus a ferocious Bears defense that sacked Green Bay quarterbacks 4 times and sent MVP favorite Aaron Rodgers into the locker room for most of the first half.
Unless the Seahawks can generate a rushing attack out of the blue, Chicago’s defense should terrorize Wilson the way it did Rodgers, and it's not an entirely safe angle in NFL Week 2 Monday Night Football betting to pray for hail mary's, which is something Seattle seems to do a lot of.
Edge: Bears
Bears Offense vs Seahawks Defense The good news for Seattle’s defense is that the unit’s best player, free safety Earl Thomas, should play better in this game than he did in the Week 1 matchup. Thomas produced 3 solo tackles and 2 assisted tackles even though he missed all of training camp, but his presence is a big problem for Chicago overall. The Bears tend to be a team that attacks down the middle, and that's exactly where Seattle's defense is strong. Bobby Wagner and Earl Thomas fill a lot of gaps for the Seahawks, but they don't fill all of them.
The Bears reached Green Bay’s third-level plenty of times via both the rush and the pass. Quarterback Mitch Trubisky didn’t throw a TD against Green Bay, but he also didn’t throw an interception while the Bears rushed for a fantastic 139 yards. Chicago’s a better rushing team than Denver, and the Broncos crushed for 146 yards against Seattle’s defense. Da Bears have the edge here.
Edge: Bears
Seahawks at Bears Betting Analysis and ATS Prediction Almost immediately, the line jumped from Bears -2.5 to Bears -3.5. The full point line movement has led to many bettors favoring the Seahawks. But, the Bears have attracted backers, meaning that the line could go either way from its current -3.5. That's what in the business call a "fair line". This NFL Week 2 Monday Night Football betting line is a pure toss-up on your own preferences.
Chicago appears to be the more complete team, which is weird to say given that Trubisky was such a wart last Sunday night. His weaknesses seem to come in the two intangibles that make a quarterback successful - he appears to lack confidence, and he also presents as incompetent at times.
But Chicago is so strong on the ground, and the defense can at least keep the Bears in the game given that they prevent big plays from the Seahawks. Linebacker Khalil Mack made an immediate impact in his first game in a Bears’ uniform while Trubisky and Chicago’s offense moved the ball against a decent Green Bay defense. The Bears’ pass rush should frustrate Wilson to no end and it’s a real question if Seattle can do anything more than just hope Wilson leads them to victory. I don’t see Seattle getting close to covering. Chicago should beat the Seahawks by at least a touchdown in a prime time special that will highlight each team's defenses.
