Overview

It wouldn't be New York if there wasn't exceptional scrutiny and discussion around the state of the Giants. Coming into 2019 there is plenty to talk about on the heels of a 5-11 season (8-7-1 against the spread). General Manager Dave Gettleman has received as much public attention as any GM ever will, and the 2019 season will serve as the canary in the coalmine regarding his future with the franchise.

Arguably the biggest move of the entire NFL offseason was Gettleman's decision to trade away franchise star Odell Beckham Jr. Beckham is an elite talent, but it's worth questioning if he was a team player who truly improved the overall state of the franchise.

The Giants also will be without without two of their defensive stars from last season, Landon Collins and Olivier Vernon. To counteract the losses, the team has brought in safety Jabrill Peppers, recently suspended wideout Golden Tate and first-round draft pick Daniel Jones. These don't feel like the necessary additions to make this team a contender.

With this roster turnover, what do the Giants' odds look like for the 2019 season?

Super Bowl odds: +7000

Despite all the questions and discussions related to quarterback Eli Manning's abilities, he's proven for years that his success and failures are very much predicated on the ability of his offensive line. When the Giants won the Super Bowl in 2008 and 2012 they had a great offensive line and a power running game that protected Manning and gave him the ability to find open receivers. If the offensive line can show improvement, the Giants very well may surprise, but it just doesn't feel possible for them to win the Super Bowl this year.

NFC Championship odds: +3500

If by some miracle the Giants surprise and make it this far, I'd rather be holding a Super Bowl ticket.

NFC East odds: +1200

If you believe the Giants are capable of improvement this year, these seem like generous odds. The Redskins (+850) have the lowest ceiling in the division, so we'll throw them out. The Cowboys (+130) have an Ezekiel Elliott situation and Dak Prescott may not be all that good without him, and that's assuming the quarterback's contract situation works out. The Eagles (-110) are the deserving favorites, and it isn't wise to handicap for potential injuries, but Carson Wentz is coming back from injury and has battled injury setbacks throughout his career. If he doesn't live up to his potential or has setbacks, Nick Foles isn't walking through that door any more.

Odds to make the playoffs: +425

I'd rather take the odds to win the East. Either they'll have a chance to win the division at big odds, or they'll be bad again.

Regular season win total: 6

I don't think will be be very good in 2019, so I'll lean toward the under, but their schedule never has back-to-back road games, so it is favorable.
