Lions vs. Seahawks: NFL Week 17 betting odds, preview, and pick
For the first time since 2018, the Detroit Lions and Seattle Seahawks will meet on the gridiron in a Week 17 showdown at Lumen Field.
Seattle eliminated from playoffs in unusual home game
It has been a season to forget for both Detroit and Seattle, who have won a combined seven games through Week 16.
On Sunday, the Seahawks were mathematically eliminated from playoff contention, as they lost their second straight contest in a 25-24 setback to the 5-10 Chicago Bears.
In a rare snow game at Lumen Field, Seattle's ground game was the focus, as Rashaad Penny ran for 135 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. Quarterback Russell Wilson added 181 yards and two scores through the air, including the first touchdown to wideout DK Metcalf since Oct. 31.
Despite a 24-14 lead entering the fourth quarter, the Seahawks' defense couldn't hold off Bears backup Nick Foles, who led an 80-yard, game-winning drive with 1:01 left in regulation.
The Seahawks are gonna lose to the Bears. They blew a 10-point fourth-quarter lead. At home. With Nick Foles starting at QB.

This season isn't just a failure. It's a disaster.
A successful two-point conversion attempt handed Chicago a one-point lead, and with a minute remaining to kick a game-winning field goal, Wilson & Co. came up short.
Seattle's bottom-five pass defense gave up 250 passing yards to Foles, while its run defense let David Montgomery and Khalil Herbert each reach paydirt.
With the Seahawks' 10th defeat of the season, head coach Pete Carroll suffered double-digit losses for the first time in his tenure.
On the plus side for Seattle, linebacker Bobby Wagner set a franchise record with his 168th tackle of the season late in the third quarter. He finished the game with 170 total tackles for the season, which leads the NFL.
Lions continue to beat the spread
At just 2-12-1, the Lions own the worst record in the NFC but remain one of the hottest teams against the spread.
Coming off a shocking 30-12 victory over Arizona, Detroit entered Sunday's matchup with the Atlanta Falcons as a 6.5-point road underdog but narrowly lost, 20-16.
With Jared Goff sidelined by COVID-19, Tim Boyle got his second NFL start and completed 24 of 34 passes for 187 yards. He threw a 20-yard touchdown to rookie receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, along with one interception, from Atlanta's 9-yard line, on his final play of the game.
St. Brown finished with nine receptions for 91 yards and joined Calvin Johnson as the only Lions players with four consecutive games with eight or more catches.

- 10 catches, 86 yards, TD
- 8 catches, 73 yards
- 8 catches, 90 yards, TD
- 9 catches, 91 yards, TD
St. Brown joins Odell Beckham, Jr. as the only rookies in NFL history with at least 8 catches in 4 straight games.
For the fourth straight game, Detroit was also without running back D'Andre Swift, who is nursing a shoulder injury, but ran for 130 yards, including 77 from Jamaal Williams.
For the season, the Lions are 10-5 against the spread and 5-3 ATS as the road team.

Lions will fight to the finish in Seattle
Detroit's postseason hopes were officially crushed in Week 14, but this team continues to battle each week.
While Seattle is in the midst of its worst season of the Carroll era, and is certainly reeling from last week's loss, the Seahawks will be determined to close out their final home game of 2021 with a win.
Neither team is good at defending the pass, with both ranking in the bottom 10 in the league, but Detroit is just as bad at stopping the run.
Seattle will have the upper hand in this matchup and will come away with a win, but Detroit will fight hard on the road to beat the spread for the 11th time this season.
