Giants vs. Eagles: NFL Week 16 betting odds, preview, and pick
The NFL holiday schedule is normally a little different, but in the world of COVID-19, it has taken another plot-turning twist.
Because of outbreaks among multiple teams, games that were scheduled this past Sunday have been pushed out into the week. One team to experience this delayed start time is the Philadelphia Eagles, who must play on Tuesday, and then are expected to have a quick turnaround to face their division rival, the New York Giants, this upcoming Sunday.
Let’s take a closer look at the game slated for the day after Christmas.
The Eagles sit at 6-7 straight up and 7-6 against the spread at the time of this writing. By Tuesday night that will change, but for now they are tied for second in the NFC East and ninth in the NFC playoff standings. A win would push them above Washington.
The Giants sit last in the NFC East at 4-10 straight up and just 6-8 against the spread. They are coming off a home loss to the Dallas Cowboys and are currently on a three-game losing streak as injuries continue to mount.
The Eagles are favored by -10.5 in a contest scheduled for a 1 p.m. ET kickoff in Philadelphia.
Giants endure offensive woes
The Giants have already been eliminated from the postseason, and it is time to begin looking ahead to 2022 for a franchise that can’t seem to find the right roster concoction to be competitive.
The Giants have just one winning season in the last nine, and that was in 2016, when they still failed to win the division and lost in the Wild Card round.
The hope was that Duke product Daniel Jones, paired with Penn State product Saquon Barkley, would be the offensive backfield this franchise could build around for the next decade.
After several seasons, it seems evident this isn’t the answer. Barkley has unfortunately been plagued by injuries and isn’t a game-changer. He is second on the team in rushing yards, behind Devontae Booker, and has a lower yards-per-carry average, at just 3.7.
It’s hard not to look at these stats for the season and wonder who is the better rushing option. They run behind the same O-line:
— Jordan Raanan (@JordanRaanan) December 20, 2021
Saquon Barkley: 115 carries, 429 yards, 2 TDs, 3.7 ypc
Devontae Booker: 113 carries, 506 yards, 2 TDs, 4.5 ypc
Jones, meanwhile, is only averaging 6.7 passing yards per attempt and 220 per game. He has 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Injuries can be credited for much of the Giants’ struggles, but the bottom line is their first-round draft capital has not panned out in a meaningful way, and it is likely time to start fresh.
The Giants' offense is just 28th in the league in points per play, and against a tough Eagles defense that has shown stellar defensive line play in 2021, things don’t look to be getting any easier coming home down the stretch.

Giants and Eagles betting trends
- Eagles are 4-1 ATS in their last five games as a favorite
- Eagles are 1-5 ATS in their last six games versus the Giants
- Eagles are 8-2 straight up in their last 10 games versus the Giants
- The Under is 7-2 in the Eagles’ last nine games as a home favorite
- The Under is 5-2 in the Eagles’ last seven games against the NFC East
Eagles will get revenge
The Eagles are in the thick of the NFC playoff race, and playing at home will lend an opportunity to get revenge for a late-November loss that saw them falter as a four-point favorite.
The Giants' offense is looking worse as their season slides, and Jones, for as mediocre as he’s been, may not even be available because of a neck injury.
The Eagles will have to plan for a quick turnaround, but they are relatively healthy entering their Tuesday night matchup against Washington. If they come away with a win and a healthy enough roster, they should be able to dominate this Giants team at the line of scrimmage in a must-win scenario.
