Eagles vs. Panthers: NFL Week 5 betting odds, preview, and pick
The Carolina Panthers will host the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday with both teams hoping to bounce back from Week 4 losses.
Let's examine this NFC matchup, beginning with the latest betting odds.
Eagles need their wings back
After a Week 1 blowout victory over the Atlanta Falcons, the Eagles have just not been the same. At first it was the offense that struggled as they went from 32 points in Week 1 to a combined 32 points over the next two games.
The offense got going again last Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs, but now the defense is the issue. After allowing only 23 points and 566 total yards in the first two weeks, Philly has allowed 83 points and 851 total yards in the past two weeks.

Some of this can be attributed to their opponents as they had to face the Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs, two prolific offenses. However, time is running out on the Eagles' season if they plan to make the playoffs. Now is the time to start putting together a complete game on both offense and defense.
How good is Carolina really?
The Panthers got off to an unexpected 3-0 start to the season before looking outclassed last Sunday in Dallas. So, the question is, which Carolina team is real?
After allowing a combined total of only 135 rushing yards through the first three games, the Panthers allowed 245 rushing yards to the Cowboys. They also allowed 36 points, even though they only allowed 30 total points on the season coming into Week 4.
The one constant positive is the play of new quarterback Sam Darnold. He is averaging 297.3 passing yards per game and has gone over 300 passing yards in each of the past three games. He also shockingly leads the NFL in rushing touchdowns, and not just amongst quarterbacks. The improvement since leaving the New York Jets is incredible.

Panthers' defense will bounce back
The Panthers' defense really struggled with the Cowboys last week, but there has yet to be a defense that didn’t struggle with them this season. The defense we saw in the first three weeks of the season is still there, even with the absence of first round pick Jaycee Horn.
The Eagles' defense has been consistently bad since Week 1, and Darnold has been consistently good all year. I could see this one being a blowout if the Panthers' defense from the first three weeks shows up. It could be a long year in Philadelphia unless the Eagles' defense makes a quick turnaround.
Score Prediction: Panthers 31, Eagles 17
