Brett Favre by the numbers
At the time of his final retirement in 2010, Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre had completed his 20th season in the NFL and left the game with a number of records.
The longtime Green Bay Packers signal caller, who helped lead the franchise to its first Super Bowl win in three decades, enjoyed remarkable success throughout his career that few players have been able to match.
Even at age 40, Favre remained a force in the league. During his brief stint with Minnesota — the fourth and final franchise he played for — he guided the Vikings to a 12-4 record in 2010 and narrowly lost to eventual Super Bowl champion New Orleans in the NFC Championship Game.
It has been a decade since we have seen No. 4 suit up, but his impact is lasting.
Let’s look back on Favre's incredible legacy and examine the numbers and stats that shaped his Hall of Fame career.

From 1995-1997, Favre won three NFL MVP awards.
Only quarterback Peyton Manning has collected more (five). Jim Brown, Johnny Unitas, and Tom Brady are tied with Favre at three.
What makes Favre unique is that he is the only player to earn the honor in three consecutive seasons.

During Favre's first MVP campaign, in 1995, he passed for a career-high 4,413 yards and 38 scores, including a record-setting 99-yard touchdown pass to Robert Brooks in a Monday Night Football game.
In 1996, Favre became one of six quarterbacks to collect NFL MVP the same season he won a Super Bowl.
The following year, Favre reached the Super Bowl again, but lost a close battle to the Denver Broncos. That season, he shared league MVP with running back Barry Sanders.

Johnny Unitas, Steve Young, Drew Brees, Manning, and Brady are tied with Favre for the most seasons (four) leading the league in touchdown passes.
11
Favre was named to the Pro Bowl 11 times. Manning (14), Brady (14), and Brees (13) are the only quarterbacks with more Pro Bowl selections.
Favre earned nine Pro Bowl nominations with Green Bay, one with the New York Jets (2009), and one with Minnesota (2010).

The number of NFL franchises Favre has defeated.
In his first season in Minnesota, Favre played against Green Bay for the first time in his career in a Week 4 showdown in 2009.
Days before his 40th birthday, Favre piled on 271 passing yards and three touchdowns in a 30–23 victory. The win made him the first quarterback to defeat each of the league's 32 franchises.
Manning and Brees later accomplished this feat, as well.

In a Week 3 game against Cincinnati in 1992, Favre stepped in for an injured Don Majkowski and completed his first game-winner with a 35-yard touchdown pass to Kitrick Taylor with 13 seconds remaining.
Favre is also ranks 13th in fourth-quarter comebacks, with 28.
99
One record no player will ever break — but can at least tie — is Favre's 99-yard touchdown pass.
In a Week 2 contest against Chicago in 1995, the gunslinger flung a pass from his own end zone and connected with Robert Brooks for the 99-yard strike.
Brady, Eli Manning, Ron Jaworski, and Jeff Garcia are among the players who have also thrown a 99-yarder.
199
Favre had 199 regular-season and postseason victories in his NFL career. Only Brady (261) and Peyton Manning (200) have more.
Favre is tied for second in regular-season wins (186), with Peyton Manning. Brady's has the most, at 230.
321
Another record of Favre's that is unlikely to be broken is his number of consecutive starts.
From the time he became Green Bay's starter on Sept. 27, 1992, Favre appeared in the next 297 regular season games, which spanned 18 1/2 seasons.

Including the playoffs, Favre started 321 straight games, an accomplishment for which he has said he is most proud.
On December 13, 2010, Favre's impressive streak ended, when he was marked inactive for a game against the New York Giants because of a sprained shoulder.
Philip Rivers is the closest to Favre's consecutive-starts record, with 252, including the postseason.
Favre also owns the record for most seasons (17) starting all 16 games, tied with offensive lineman Bruce Matthews.
442
Aaron Rodgers is drawing closer to the Packers record for touchdown passes, but Favre is the current leader, with 442. Rodgers has 412.
508
Favre threw 508 passing touchdowns in his pro career, which ranks fourth in NFL history, behind Brady (581), Brees (571), and Peyton Manning (539).
At the time of Favre's retirement, he was the only player with more than 500 touchdown passes.
6,300
Favre also finished his career with 6,300 passes completed, which ranks third, behind Brees (7,142) and Brady (6,778).
Favre was the first player to hit 5,000 and 6,000 completions.
61,655
While Rodgers could soon surpass Favre's franchise record for passing touchdowns, it will take more time for him to threaten Favre's franchise mark for passing yards (61,655).
Rodgers ranks second, with 51,245.
71,838
Favre ranks fourth in NFL history for career passing yards, with 71,838, and was the first to reach 70,000.
On Oct. 10, 2010, during Favre's final year in the league, he tallied his 500th touchdown and 70,000th passing yard against his former team, the Jets.
Only Brees, Brady, and Peyton Manning have passed for more yards in a career.
