0:05: Ashley Anderson, James Scully here for you Bet's big game, big preview show with a look ahead to the rematch in the Big Easy between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles, who will play for the Lombardi Trophy on Sunday, February 9th, kickoff set at 6:30 p.m. Eastern Time in the Superdome in New Orleans, and James, very excited to have you here to talk some football.
0:25: We talk horse racing all the time, but now it's the NFL today.
0:30: That's right, Ashley.
0:31: And I think, you know, we have the two best teams in both conferences.
0:36: definitely at the end of the year, Philadelphia smashed Washington in the NFC Championship and Kansas City edged Buffalo, but they were, they enter with an 18-1 record, or 18-2 record, a lot going for them.
0:51: We're gonna be talking all the major markets, the money line spread over under team totals, player props, and some novelty props as well.
0:59: But before we dive into the odds, James, what are some key storylines or X factors for you ahead of the big game?
1:06: Well, you know, the Chiefs are going for a historic three-peat in the game.
1:13: you know, trying to become the first team to do that.
1:17: And obviously, Travis Kelsey, their terrific defense and Andy Reid are all key factors for the Chiefs, but Patrick Mahomes is the straw that stirs the drink.
1:28: He's a generational talent.
1:30: , since taking over as a starter in 2018, Mahomes has made the championship game every year and this will be his fifth, Super Bowl appearance.
1:40: In fact, the only quarterbacks to beat, Patrick Mahomes in the postseason are Tom Brady and Joe Burrow.
1:48: And, you know, it's been a magical season in my estimation for Mahomes whereby they have won a ton of close games and then each And every time he got the ball late with the Chiefs needing a score, he found a way seemingly willed the Chiefs to victory.
2:05: So, definitely Mahomes for the Chiefs.
2:08: And then on the other side, it's been a lot of roster turnover since these two teams met 2 years or been some roster turnover, but the most, the biggest is Saquan Barkley.
2:17: He joined the Eagles in the offseason as a free agent.
2:21: He leads the league in rushing.
2:23: He's got 2,472 2,427 yards rushing in the regular season and postseason, including 442 in the postseason.
2:35: So he needs 30 rushing yards to break Terrell Davis's record for most rushing yards in a regular season and postseason combined, and he's 169 yards short of setting the all-time postseason rushing record.
2:50: Very exciting stuff.
2:51: Let's jump into one of the major markets that NFL fans love to play, and that is the money line.
2:57: We'll also talk the spread here.
2:59: The Chiefs are favored by 1.5 right now.
3:02: James, which side are you taking?
3:03: Are you playing the money line or are you gonna play the spread?
3:06: Well, I think if you're playing the Eagles, you know, since it's a 1 point, only 1.5, you, for me, the money line is to play.
3:15: I'm gonna give the Eagles the advantage and, you know, for me, Philadelphia, they were scuffling a little bit early in the year and really came together, you know, I thought when Barkley, stood up and had, Nick Cirani, their coach, was catching a lot of flack.
3:33: He, he had their he, he stood up, defended the coach, and I really thought they came together.
3:39: In the midseason and late in the year, Barkley has rushed for over 100 yards in 5 straight games, 9 of the last 10, and I think, they're gonna feed him the ball.
3:50: both teams, like the, have had 10+, multiple 10+ drives, scoring drives in the postseason.
3:59: You know, Travis Mahomes, more than half the Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes, more than half the Chiefs wins, 9 times.
4:06: He's thrown for less than 250 yards and they have found a way to win.
4:12: So I'm expecting a close game and I'm gonna look for Phillies defense to be the difference, Ashley.
4:19: For me, I'm gonna change it up just a little bit.
4:21: I'm going to the Eagles' first half spread, and here's why.
4:24: The Eagles have led at halftime in 13 of their last 15 games.
4:27: Their defense has also allowed the third fewest first half points this season.
4:32: And if you go back to the big game 2 years ago, Chiefs played the Eagles, it was 38 to 35, that final score with the Chiefs winning.
4:40: But in the first half, the Eagles had a 10 point lead.
4:43: I feel like they're gonna come out swinging.
4:45: So I'm playing them to, I'm gonna play the money line for the first half with the Eagles, and, you know, depending on what the spread is, maybe go that Engle if that's better odds.
4:55: And then I also wanted to point out interesting market with the third quarter.
4:59: The Chiefs have been really bad in the third quarter.
5:01: They enter Sunday's game 2 and 12 on the money line in the third quarter, they ranked 28th and 3rd quarter scoring this season with 3.33 quarter points per game and 03 quarter points in the postseason so far.
5:16: So maybe you'd like to play the money line with the Eagles on the 3rd quarter or the spread as well.
5:21: Well, I wanna also turn it over to you, because it's you bet, and we went to social media to ask what you thought about who you're taking in the spread.
5:29: So here are the results.
5:30: We've got 75.7% with the Eagles plus 1.5.
5:34: Don't know if this is sharp butters or just Chiefs haters, but either way, I like it.
5:41: Yeah, it could be, it could be either or with that, definitely, you know, the Chiefs have sort of adopted that role that the New England Patriots had where, you know, they've become like a dynasty in a sense, and, but people have seen them win.
5:56: Patrick Mahomes is 3-1.
5:57: One in Super Bowl, so get a little bit of a, of a like villain type role of, you know, when a team is as good as like New England was up with Belichick and Brady or as good as the Chiefs are with Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes.
6:14: Let's move over to the game totals.
6:16: The over under is set at 48.5.
6:18: It opened at 49.5 at some of the major sports books.
6:21: James, do you see value in the game total?
6:23: Are you gonna play a different total available at the sports books?
6:27: I am gonna play the under and I'll just say this that the over under, I saw, it opened at 50.5 after the AFC and NFC championships.
6:37: It has gone down 2 points and that's a significant line shift.
6:41: The worst case scenario for these, for sports books in the Super Bowl is to have a significant line shifts because it opens them up to the potential middle books loss.
6:52: A ton of money in Super Bowl 13 when the line moved from the Steelers minus 3.5 to the Steelers minus 4.5.
6:59: Pittsburgh won by 4, people had the opportunity to come in early on Pittsburgh, late on Dallas and win both bets.
7:06: So a 2-point shift from 50, 50.5 to 48.5 is pretty significant.
7:11: And I'll tell you, I mean, I, I, I see both teams, like I said, I don't see.
7:17: These teams marching up and down the field.
7:19: The Chiefs feature a short passing game.
7:22: They don't have explosive weapons on the outside.
7:25: They can throw short passes to Worthy or Brown, and they might be able to break them into long runs.
7:32: But the fact of the matter is they're still dinkin and dunking and Philly is going to rely heavily on Saquan Barkley, so I'm looking for the final score to fall in the under, Ashley.
7:42: I'm going with the under as well.
7:44: I did see earlier in the week there was one sports book that said 70% of the money was on the over, which I found interesting, and it might be that people are thinking back to that 38 to 35 score from two years ago.
7:54: I will note that if you like the trends regarding the big game in the last 6 years, the Under has hit 5 times, with the exception being the time that the Chiefs and the Eagles played in the overhit.
8:05: Also going back every time the Chiefs have played in this big game, the Under is hit every time aside from that time they played the Eagles.
8:13: But I also, I'm with you with Saquan Barkley.
8:16: If he gets going, the run games established, and at the same time with the Chiefs of Kareem Hunt, Isaiah Pacheco, if they're heavily involved, I think this will be a lower scoring game.
8:25: And the last time these two teams played last season, the final score was 21 to 17 with the Eagles winning, so I'm looking for something a little more similar to that this time around.
8:34: Yeah, and, and, you know, that last matchup, key to that was the Eagles did not lose the turnover battle in that regular season win in the Super Bowl two years ago.
8:43: You referenced Philadelphia blowing a 24 to 14 lead, but another key component of that first half was the Eagles were driving around midfield and Hearts got stripped of the ball.
8:57: Kansas City picked it up and ran it back for a touchdown.
8:59: And that was a long giveaway in the game and that, you know, it, it, it turned out to be, you know, very important.
9:06: Philadelphia in the postseason has 10 takeaways and 0 giveaways.
9:11: I mean, a plus 10 raised turnover margin in the postseason is really impressive.
9:17: So they can't afford to lose the turnover of, of battle this time to Kansas City and come out on top in my mind.
9:26: Taking care of the ball is gonna be key, and the Chiefs in the 4th quarter, they blitzed more than any other team, so Jalen Hurts is gonna need to protect that ball in the 4th quarter.
9:34: Let's take it back to a poll that we put out there on social media.
9:38: Do you like the over or the under?
9:40: I believe the results came out at exactly 50/50, so that doesn't help us much, but that makes a lot of sense that we pretty much got 50/50 on that response.
9:50: All right, let's talk some player props, James.
9:52: Who do you like?
9:53: What's your best player prop of the weekend?
9:56: My best player prop is Saquan Barkley plus 1 125 plus rushing yards.
10:04: Now, the regular rushing total listed for Barkley is like minus 111.5, but you're laying some juice if you're if you're betting that, under the alternate rushing yards tab at bet MGM.
10:20: , you'll find options for Barkley and plus 125 yards is listed as plus 115.
10:28: That's attractive to me because, like I said, the Eagles, you know, two years ago, the Ravens when they lost to the Chiefs, they let, they had the number one rushing offense in the league and the running backs only got 4 carries.
10:41: And in the AFC Championship, Cook was averaging 6.5.
10:45: yards to Kerry versus Kansas City.
10:48: He thrashed them in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, and Buffalo went away from the run.
10:53: I think that Philly will not abandon the run.
10:56: They're going to get the ball to Barkley.
10:58: I wouldn't be surprised to see him make a run at that 169 to get the postseason record, but I think 125 plus 125 rushing yards is very doable, and I'm gonna make a sizable wager on that.
11:13: You know, the Chiefs, they ranked 8th in the regular season, 101.8 yards per game allowed.
11:18: So you're gonna go with at least 125 for Sawan Barkley.
11:21: I hope you're right.
11:22: I do think it's very possible.
11:24: He's a whole different player since he left the New York Giants, that's for sure.
11:28: Absolutely, yeah, yeah, absolutely.
11:30: I'm sorry.
11:31: I think, you know, and the one other intangible about Barkley is, is that, not only has he made such a difference by, you know, becoming the leading rusher in the league, but the Eagles, last year fell apart at the end of the season.
11:44: They lost.
11:44: 6 of the last 7 games to say they weren't on, they were on the, they weren't on the same page.
11:49: They were in it for themselves, a lot of players were.
11:51: And his locker room presence has made a huge difference.
11:56: Like I said, he got this team to come together and they're playing their best football right now.
12:01: I'm going with an Eagles receiver for my player prop, and I landed on Devonta Smith over 50.5 receiving yards.
12:09: And again, you know, if Saquan Barkley, he will be heavily involved, but if the Chiefs run defense does step up and they limit him, then it's gonna open things up and the Eagles will take it to the air, no pun intended, and open it up with the passing game, and Devonta Smith historically is really, really good against the Chiefs.
12:25: In fact, I saw this post earlier this week.
12:28: A stat was put out that he has the most receiving yards per game versus Kansas City all time, including playoff games with 107 yards per game.
12:36: He has only topped 50.5 once in the playoffs so far, against the Packers in the divisional round.
12:42: He had 45 against the Commanders.
12:44: They're a top 3 pass defense, and he had 21 against the Rams, but that was a game where Seikwan went off for 205 rushing yards and was the second leading receiver for the Eagles.
12:52: I think it'll be a different story here.
12:54: Devonta Smith in the history of playing the Chiefs, he had 99 yards.
12:58: The last time they played, he had 100 yards in the loss in the big game two years ago, and 122 yards in the regular season in 2021 against the Chiefs.
13:06: So definitely taking the over there and maybe even anytime touchdown, cause I get, I think, plus 250 yards there as well.
13:13: Yeah, and, and really the key for his success is that when the Chiefs have gone to double anybody, I mean they have, they, they, they mix up their defensive packages, but the one receiver that they're gonna have their top corners on it is Brown.
13:29: So, that, that provides an opportunity.
13:32: To, Devonta Smith, sort of like teams trying to take Jamar Chase away, opens opportunity for T Higgins and other teams have that exact same scenario that have their top receiver.
13:43: he's gonna be the focal point of the Chiefs' pass defense.
13:47: Brown will be, and that gives Smith a good opportunity.
13:51: How to work in a Bengals reference there.
13:53: Nicely done.
13:54: I could use the Minnesota Vikings, you know, with, Addison, you know, with, you know, with the Jefferson, yeah, but.
14:04: Let's talk some team and novelty props.
14:06: James, any in particular that you like?
14:09: Well, I do think that, you know, one thing about the Chiefs' defense is, is that they will bring pressure and they can bring pressure with their front four, but I, I think they get blitz heavy when teams get deep in their territory.
14:22: And I think that that will force Hearts into some passing situations.
14:28: And when they're in deep in the Chiefs territory, I think he's gonna look for AJ Brown.
14:34: So I like AJ Brown anytime touchdown plus 170, you know, that I, I, I agree with your Smith play cause I think you'll get a lot of the passes in between the 20s, but, down around this touchdown when they need a TD I think they're gonna go to AJ Brown at least once in the game, successfully.
14:56: So I'll take plus 170 anytime touchdown for AJ Brown.
15:00: And as far as team props and novelty props.
15:03: Yeah, well, I mean, the, the, the, the, the team props, you know, I, I, I definitely looking at, well, I'll just mention a novelty prop I thought, you know, I, I thought that, who will be mentioned first in the Super Bowl MVP speech?
15:22: I think Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts are the leading, obviously the quarterback most of the time wins it.
15:28: They're veterans.
15:29: They've been there before.
15:30: I think there's a chance they could mention their teammates first, you know, that's plus 325.
15:36: You know, to me, the Gatorade, that the Chiefs have poured Purple Gatorade.
15:40: The last two years I think I think that will be the same or I guess it's orange.
15:45: Well, actually that's from 2020 because yeah it was the last two years 2023 and 2024, right.
15:53: The last two years were purple, so I think that's a safe bet if the Chiefs win, if the Eagles win, I think green lemon lines a safe bet.
16:01: They're both 5 to 2.
16:03: So depending on who you like to win the game, Ashley, I could see throwing a, a couple bucks on that.
16:08: You'll get 3.5 to 1 and, you know, those are, I definitely take a look at some other ones like overtime.
16:15: That was almost 12 to 1 earlier in the week, but it's down to 7 to 1, might be too low odds, but it's certainly a possibility.
16:22: The Chiefs went to overtime last year in their Super Bowl game.
16:26: And there's one more team prop, Eagles to try a 2-point conversion, that's plus 250.
16:34: Obviously, the T-pus is a big part of their offense when they're going for 2, and Philadelphia ranked second to the Detroit Lions, in, in number of 2-point conversion attempts.
16:46: They'll go for 2 at any point in the game, so I would consider plus 250 on a 2-point conversion attempt for the Eagles.
16:53: What do you have?
16:55: So I was gonna say real quickly with the MVP speech, shout out to my teammates is definitely a good play there, especially if Mahomes wins because I was looking historically the last two times he has mentioned his teammates first, so there has been some talk, especially with the AFC Championship game, he thanked God first.
17:13: So is he, is he a little bit more religious this year maybe?
17:16: I'm not sure.
17:17: God's odds.
17:19: I mean the the the most.
17:23: outcome according to the odds layers.
17:26: Now, as the Eagles win and if Tawan Barkley goes off, apparently Jake Paul promised him a Ferrari, so we'll see if that happens.
17:33: Nice little icing on the cake there.
17:35: For me, I'm gonna go with the over under on the national anthem.
17:39: And last year Reba McIntyre for me that was very easy.
17:42: This was when Christina Aguilera sang it many years ago, but Reba McIntyre, it was very easy for me to take the under on that.
17:47: You can go to YouTube and look up.
17:49: Past performances, it sounds like I'm talking horse racing here, but you can go and watch previous performances of the national anthem of these artists, and John Baptiste, he's kind of a mixed bag because he has had some shorter renditions where he plays just instrumental and he's had longer where he sings as well.
18:06: But he is gonna be in New Orleans.
18:08: He's from Metaie.
18:09: I think he's gonna give us a soulful, drawn out national anthem.
18:13: Take us to church, and I'm gonna go with over 1205 seconds, so just over 2 minutes.
18:20: That is my best know it down to science and then analysis of it, but I like your take on the, intangibles of the, you know, being from New Orleans being his hometown.
18:32: Yeah.
18:33: Well, since we have a little bit of time, I wanted to give you some rapid fire novelty prop questions, James.
18:38: So just off the top of your head, give me your first answer here, starting with coin toss, heads or tails.
18:46: Heads.
18:47: I always go heads.
18:48: Yeah, I think tails, isn't tails generally what do you have the numbers on that?
18:54: I don't know.
18:55: I actually don't have the numbers on that, but I think you get, you get the same, what is it 10-105 for either, right?
19:02: What are you going with a coin toss?
19:04: Oh man, I actually, I like to look those up actually to see what I obviously there's no trend that you can really play off of here, but I'll probably go tails this year, but I like heads.
19:14: That does seem to come up a lot.
19:16: All right, next one, first Super Bowl commercial.
19:18: What's the brand?
19:21: Doritos.
19:23: Oh, that's actually, I think that's actually favored right now.
19:25: Oh, is it really?
19:27: Yeah.
19:28: Will a player or coach cry during the national anthem?
19:32: Yes, 100%.
19:34: Yes, there's no dots on that, especially Jon Batiste.
19:37: I mean, he's very helpful.
19:38: Will there be a flea, a flea flicker?
19:42: I, I think so.
19:43: I mean, we, we, you know, these coaches have had 2 weeks that devised game plans.
19:47: I wouldn't believe, you know, I, I saw like when the Chiefs went for, kick went for 2 in the last Super Bowl, they did a circular dance.
19:55: Andy Reid pulled it out of nowhere, so I wouldn't be surprised that either he or his counterpart, you get plus 250 on a flea flicker, so maybe go to the sports book and back that first team to use a coach's challenge.
20:09: I'm gonna go Eagles.
20:12: OK, I mean the Chiefs get all the calls.
20:16: I mean Andy Reid's gonna have fewer opportunities.
20:19: Sorry Jams first song performed by Kendrick Lamar.
20:24: Ashley, I wish I knew this one.
20:27: I mean, it just slips my mind what it might be.
20:30: What do you think?
20:31: I believe the favorite right now is Humble and then not like us, you know, that big diss track against Drake.
20:37: So yeah, we'll hear that for sure.
20:39: I'm pretty, pretty sure we'll hear that.
20:41: Will Travis Kelsey propose to Taylor Swift?
20:44: I know.
20:45: I mean, I know that's that's got to be a huge favor, but I doubt it.
20:48: And then finally barbecue or cheesesteak.
20:50: It's not a prop, but I just want to know what you prefer.
20:53: Hey, I love some cheesesteak, but if I've got those two as an option, I'm going with the barbecue every time.
20:58: I mean, you can't beat some barbecue.
21:00: I mean, cheesecake, I'll take that, in between my pulled pork and.
21:08: Well make sure you have some Tums after you eat all that.
21:11: Enjoy the big game this weekend.
21:13: All right, that's all the time we have today for our big game, big preview show.
21:17: We appreciate you joining us and offering your feedback in those polls on social media as well.
21:22: James, good luck to you and the Bengals next year.
21:25: Good luck to you and the New England Patriots next year.
21:28: Thank you.
21:28: We will need it, you know, we're not going for any repeats anytime soon, unfortunately, but we, we did back in the day.
21:34: Best of luck with all your Super Bowl bets.
21:36: You know, it's really wild.
21:37: More than 150 billion wagered on the Super Bowl.
21:40: It's the Only game where people really get like tied down on these get into the proposition bats, they'll do spreadsheets, they'll have 30, 40, 50 plus prop bets.
21:52: And the last thing they want is like the aside or the total like taking away from that adjustment enjoyment.
21:59: So they'll they'll just play prop bets, a lot of people do on the Super Bowl.
22:03: It's a great, great betting event, the, the, the, the biggest betting event, probably in the world.
22:09: And I do want to shout out real quickly.
22:10: If you want to add to a sports book, go to Bet MGM.
22:13: Of course there's a lot of other major sports books out there, DraftKings as well.
22:16: So place your bets, enjoy the big game or the Puppy bull postgame show is another way you can look at it.
22:21: We can't say the the big word there cause of copyright reasons.
22:24: So yeah, enjoy the Chiefs versus the Eagles.
22:34: Yeah
