Philadelphia at New Orleans (1 p.m.): NEW ORLEANS
Philadelphia’s defense collapsed in the second half of the season last year, and they’re trending in the wrong direction presently following a disappointing home loss to Atlanta. Kirk Cousins is not 100%, Pittsburgh took advantage of the hobbled quarterback in Week 1, but the Eagles couldn’t pressure him or slow down Atlanta’s offense during crunch time. New Orleans runs the same offensive scheme (West Coast) and is performing at a much higher level, with the offensive line providing their skill players the opportunity to shine, and the Saints’ defense may be the most underappreciated unit in the league. We like New Orleans to win straight up and will grab points in the teaser play.
Miami at Seattle (4:05 p.m.): UNDER
Seattle didn’t look good recording low-scoring wins over Denver and New England the first two weeks, but they’ve got a shot to remain unbeaten with Skylar Thompson taking over as Miami’s quarterback. Given their offensive limitations in the passing game, the Seahawks will look to rely upon their ground game and defense. We don’t put much stock in Miami’s performance versus Buffalo in Week 2, as the Bills have their number, and will instead focus on Miami’s strong defensive performance in Week 1, as the Dolphins shut out Jacksonville in the second half and forced a key turnover. Their defense has improved this year, Miami hopes to get Raheem Mostert back and features a talented 1-2 punch in the backfield with De’Von Achane, and Mike McDaniel will scheme short passes to avoid costly turnovers. This one has all the makings of a low-scoring game that goes Under the total.
Detroit at Arizona (4:25 p.m.): OVER
Second-year head coach Jonathan Gannon has changed the culture in Arizona, and the Cardinals look poised to be one of the higher-scoring teams after scoring a combined 75 points over the first two weeks. Detroit is looking to get things rolling after a pair of disappointing outings by the offense, which was forced to rally to force overtime in the overtime and exits a 16-point effort in a home loss to Tampa. Arizona’s offense will be much-improved this season, but defense remains a liability. We’re expecting offensive fireworks in the desert.
