Steelers at Commanders (1 p.m.): Steelers
Washington has been profitable for supporters, posting a 7-1-1 ATS record, but Pittsburgh owns a gaudy 6-2 ATS mark themselves and following a bye week, the Steelers' top-10 defense will have a plan to slow down Jayden Daniels. The Commanders exit a pair of narrow wins over the Bears and Giants, and they have a major divisional showdown against Philadelphia coming on Thursday night.
Since being named coach in 2007, Mike Tomlin is 13-4 straight-up after a bye week, including seven straight wins, and the Steelers enter on a 4-0 ATS run following a bye. Russell Wilson, who has thrown three touchdowns and zero interceptions in the last two games, has upgraded the offense, getting George Pickens heavily involved, and Najee Harris and the ground game are starting to flourish. And the Steelers defense will look to make a statement.
49ers at Buccaneers (1 p.m.): Under
Following a bye week, road favorites have compiled a 90-58-4 ATS record since 2000, an outstanding 60.8% success rate, but the 49ers have struggled in this role, posting a 0-8 ATS record in the last eight post-bye-week games versus non-divisional NFC opponents.
The Under has been the play, going 6-1 ATS in the last seven San Francisco games off a bye week, and the injury-ravaged Buccaneers must bounce back from a tough overtime loss at Kansas City on Monday night. We don’t trust Brock Purdy, who has five touchdowns and five interceptions over the last four games, but the Buccaneers may not have much left offensively on a short week.
Bills at Colts (1 p.m.): Colts
Kansas City visits Buffalo in a massive AFC showdown next week, and this is a classic look-ahead spot for the Bills, who desperately want to avoid more injuries after having wide receiver Keon Coleman and defensive end Dawuane Smoot go down with injuries. Buffalo extended its win streak to four last week, but the defense showed signs of wearing down as the Dolphins outgained and outrushed them (149-94 advantage in rushing yards).
The Colts will deliver a heavy dose of Jonathan Taylor, and even though they lost to Minnesota in Joe Flacco’s third start of the season last week, the veteran quarterback provides them with a balanced attack, and Indianapolis held its own versus one of the NFC’s best teams, forcing three turnovers in a one-score loss. We will look for them to keep it close versus the Bills.
Jets at Cardinals (4:25 p.m.): Under
The Cardinals enter a three-game win streak, posting dramatic come-from-behind wins over the Chargers and Dolphins before blowing out the Bears last week. And while the stats don’t reflect it due to their early-season struggles, Arizona’s defense has improved significantly in recent weeks, keeping the opposition relatively in check during the second half (outscored its last three opponents by a 39-23 margin in the second half).
But the Cardinals are no offensive juggernaut, with the Under 3-1-1 in their last five games, and the 3-6 Jets have failed to score more than 22 points in seven games. New York snapped a five-game losing streak last week, upsetting the Texans 21-13, and we expect the Jets to be competitive in another low-scoring game in this spot.
