It took five grueling months and too many nasal swabs to count, but the 2021 NBA Playoffs are finally here. 16 of the league’s top teams are set to square off for the chance at hoops immortality. One team will emerge with the Larry O’Brien Trophy, while the other will be merely a footnote in history.
It’s been that way since 1947, when the Philadelphia Warriors beat a bunch of stiff to win the NBA's first championship. 20 other teams have worn the crown since, and we could see another first-time victor in 2020 if the Los Angeles Clippers or Denver Nuggets have anything to say about it.
Although the spotlight will shine brightest on the future champs, the NBA Playoffs are about more than just who wins or loses. They’re also about individual moments, many of which are etched in the hearts and minds of basketball fans worldwide. Some of them, like Michael Jordan’s 63-point outburst against the Boston Celtics, will likely never be replicated. While others. Like Kevin McHale’s clotheslining of Kurt Rambis, would probably be met with a prison sentence if they happened today.
