The ultimate Milwaukee Bucks quiz
It took the Milwaukee Bucks nearly a half-century to return to the NBA Finals, but this title-hungry franchise was once one of the quickest success stories in the league.
Founded as an expansion team in 1968, the Bucks — who were almost named the Robins, based on a fan-voted naming contest — just needed a few key pieces to turn the tide of the franchise.
Following a 27-win season in its first year, Milwaukee earned the right to flip a coin with their fellow expansion team, the Phoenix Suns, in order to see which franchise would get the first pick in the impending draft.
The Bucks won the toss and wisely used the No. 1 pick on Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, then known as Lew Alcindor.
The following season, Milwaukee compiled a 56–26 record, the second-best in the league behind the New York Knicks, while Kareem won NBA Rookie of the Year.
The next year, the Bucks acquired Cincinnati Royals guard Oscar Robertson in a trade to complement Abdul-Jabbar, which proved the perfect recipe for an NBA title run.
During the 1970-71 season, Milwaukee finished with a 66-16 mark — a franchise record, to this day — and swept the Baltimore Bullets in four games to claim the NBA championship.
With their title win, the Bucks became the fastest true expansion team in North American sports to win a championship.
But in 1975, when Abdul-Jabbar left Milwaukee for the Los Angeles Lakers, the franchise's fortunes suddenly shifted.
While Milwaukee experienced flashes of greatness over the next several decades, with the help of players like Sidney Moncrief, Ray Allen, and Michael Redd, it could never get over the hump to reach another title series.
That all changed in 2021, with two-time league MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo and star forward Khris Middleton at the helm.
For the first time in 47 years, the Bucks are in the NBA Finals and are currently battling with the Suns, led by Chris Paul and Devin Booker.
Now that Milwaukee is back in the limelight, let's see how much you paid attention to this storied franchise in the past.
