The ultimate Memphis Grizzlies quiz
Professional basketball has existed in Memphis since 1970, but it didn't truly take off until 2001. That was the year the Vancouver Grizzlies relocated to the Volunteer State and set up shop at the Pyramid Arena.
Although the Grizzlies struggled at first, failing to win more than 35% of their games during their first two seasons in Tennessee, they broke through in 2004 when they won a franchise-best 50 games and advanced to the Western Conference playoffs for the first time.
The Grizzlies have since been to the playoffs on nine more occasions, including seven straight trips from 2011-17. That particular span became known as the "Grit and Grind" era, as hard-nosed players like Zach Randolph, Marc Gasol, and Tony Allen routinely outworked and out-hustled their more athletic opponents. It wasn’t always pretty, but it did result in three consecutive 50-win seasons and a trip to the Western Conference Finals in 2013, where the Grizzlies were swept by the San Antonio Spurs.
The Grizzlies are currently in 10th place in the West, but there’s hope on the horizon thanks to an infusion of fresh, young talent. The team is led by 2020 Rookie of the Year Ja Morant, and features rugged center Jonas Valanciunas and a pair of promising wings in Brandon Clarke and Jaren Jackson Jr.
