Making a difference off the bench
Williams is enjoying another solid season for the Los Angeles Clippers, who are among the favorites to win the NBA Championship this year.
Williams has eight starts under his belt, but has played in 52 games, coming off the bench most nights and giving the Clippers a boost in the process. The 33-year-old guard is averaging 19.5 points and 5.9 assists in 30 minutes per game.

That’s a solid contribution from a non-starter, but it's par for the course for Williams, who has been offering that kind of stellar production throughout his career with the Sixers, Hawks, Raptors, Lakers, and Rockets.
Who are the challengers to Williams?
Dennis Schroder of the Oklahoma City Thunder has the second-best odds to win the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award, currently +175 at BetAmerica.
Schroder has played in 54 games for the Thunder this season, with just one start. The German guard is averaging 19.3 points per game and has the second best three-point shooting percentage on the Thunder.
Schroder finished eighth in voting for the award last year.

There are essentially three main contenders for the award at the moment. Rounding out the top three is Williams' Clippers teammate Montrezl Harrell, who is sitting on career highs for minutes (28.4), rebounds (7.1), and points (18.8) per game. He was also third in voting for the award a year ago.
The fact that the Clippers have two players in prime position to claim this award shows the depth they have on their bench, which could be critical to L.A. winning the Western Conference.
