UFC Fight Night: Brian Ortega vs. Chan Sung Jung odds and pick
The Korean Zombie returns to the octagon, and this fan favorite finds himself against an opponent who shares the same kill-or-be-killed attitude as he does.
Chan Sung Jung and Brian Ortega face off in a five-rounder with the winner in prime position for a featherweight title shot, and they take center stage on the Oct. 17 edition of UFC Fight Night.
Let's check out the betting odds and make the call for UFC Fight Night: Ortega vs. Jung.
The Korean Zombie is a fearsome foe
Since taking some time off to serve his mandatory service in South Korea, the Zombie has gone 3-1 with all of his wins coming by way of first round stoppage. His firepower is unquestionable and his resolve is absolute, and taking the fight straight to him can be suicidal for his opponent.
Jung is an accurate striker and is better on defense than people give him credit for. Ortega, on the other hand, is not. Without much of an avenue to take here, Ortega has to stay on his feet long enough to hope that he can score a takedown without getting blasted. Because he’s going right into Jung’s range, his avenues for victory seem slim.
Jung's takedown defense is no joke
Should Ortega manage to bypass Jung without taking a beating, Jung boasts a strong takedown defense and doesn’t stay on the ground long when he gets there. Considering Ortega absorbs roughly seven strikes per minute, compared to Jung’s three, meaning that he’s statistically going to get beaten to the punch twice over when they do trade.
Can Ortega go the distance?
Max Holloway battered Ortega. Even in victory, Ortega was taking a hideous beating against the likes of Renato Moicano and Cub Swanson only to stay on his feet long enough to score a stoppage. While Jung’s fights have been ending within the distance, Ortega has never gone three rounds, and this one is set for five.
There isn’t a lot to like here for Ortega, even with his glossy record and reputation as a capable striker. Jung might not have the better ground game, but this is going to be a brawl from the onset, and his accurate strikes combined with Ortega’s horrible defense means another early night for the Korean Zombie.
Jung will put a few punches together early, and the will ram a hard one down on Ortega to close things out before the third round.
