Demian Maia vs. Gilbert Burns

Demian Maia | +160 |
Gilbert Burns | -205 |
Demian Maia, the ageless wonder, continues to inch closer to a big welterweight fight, but somehow finds himself an underdog against the unproven Gilbert Burns. Burns is a bit of a step down in competition for Maia, whose ground game and striking is beyond anything Burns has beaten before.
Burns will rush to Maia and try to take him by surprise, but Maia won’t fall for that trap and will use Burns’ momentum against him. Maia will use his superior tool kit in his stand-up game or on the ground.
There’s more than one way he can win, but Maia will break Burns’ will early and submit him late.
MMA free pick: Maia (+165)

Johnny Walker is on the rebound, and Nikita Krylov should serve as an excellent measuring stick to see how Walker has recovered from his loss to Corey Anderson.
Krylov is tricky and can fight ugly at times, which disrupts his opponents' rhythm, as he tries to grind them to a halt before going for a submission. The key here is Walker’s striking power and accuracy stopping Krylov from closing the distance, and with a five-inch reach advantage to go with those attributes, Krylov is going to eat plenty of leather.
A revitalized Walker should deck Krylov with a hard shot and follow up with a ground-and-pound to close the show.
MMA free pick: Walker (-150)

Though Jussier Formiga is coming off of a loss to Joseph Benavidez, Formiga is a smart fighter who is a hard puzzle to solve for the uninitiated. Though Brandon Moreno is on the rise in the talent-deprived flyweight division, he hasn’t shown enough to suggest he can figure Formiga out or overwhelm him like Benavidez did.
But Formiga isn’t going to give Moreno the opportunity to check his chin. It might not be pretty, but Formiga should keep Moreno at bay long enough to outwork him and win a dull decision.
MMA free pick: Formiga (-180)
