The fights we want to see for UFC Fight Island

If Dana White has his way, the UFC will hit international waters for Fight Island. It has the potential to be a once-in-a-lifetime event that will be talked about for decades.

With a possible late-summer date in mind, there are plenty of big fights on deck for this card, and it should have incredible matches to capitalize on its novelty.

Here are three fights we’d especially love to see on UFC's Fight Island.

Jorge Masvidal vs. Kamaru Usman

Though Khabib Nurmagomedov was set to face Justin Gaethje on this card, Nurmagomedov's ailing father will nix that fight, which leaves a void for the main event.

The next best thing would be to host a title fight one division north, between Masvidal and Usman, a matchup fans have been clamoring to see. Both men are coming off of high-profile wins, so there’s no better time or place to make this fight than as the main event of Fight Island. Aside from Conor McGregor making a return to the octagon, Masvidal/Usman is the fight to make for this unique card.

Israel Adesanya vs. Corey Anderson

Adesanya’s performance against Yoel Romero killed his momentum for a Jon Jones fight, but a trip to light heavyweight should be his next stop.

The logical opponent is against the No. 5-ranked Anderson, who is coming off a loss that would have made him Jones' mandatory. Adesanya and Anderson were theoretically one fight away from Jones and the winner here will get back on track for a light heavyweight title shot.

Anderson is no slouch, and he has the tools and experience to trouble the undefeated Adesanya.

Weili Zhang vs. Joanna Jedrzejczyk 

The barbaric first clash between Zhang and Jedrzejczyk is already one of the best fights in women’s MMA history.

After both combatants came out mangled and battered, a rematch was all but inevitable. Zhang escaped with her strawweight title with a split decision, which makes a second meeting even more attractive.

Zhang/Jedrzejczyk II would be a boon to the card. Fight Island means to celebrate the resiliency of the promotion and its competitors, and there is no better way to honor the women of the UFC than to put this fight on what could be a legendary card.
