Super Odds on Covington to defeat Lawler in UFC on ESPN 5

No. 2-ranked welterweight Colby Covington headlines UFC on ESPN 5 Saturday at 3 p.m. ET, as he takes on former American Top Team teammate Robbie Lawler in New Jersey.
The 31-year-old Covington (14-1, 2-0 KOs) is the -225 favorite (+150 if you opt in to BetAmerica’s Super Odds) in the match, with a potential shot at current UFC welterweight champ Kamaru Usman on the line. “Chaos” is riding a six-fight win streak, with his last four victories unanimous decisions.
Covington's last fight was a defeat of Rafael dos Anjos for the interim UFC welterweight championship at UFC 225 in June of 2018. Lawler (28-13, 20-2 KOs) and dos Anjos also met in the octagon not too long ago, but “Ruthless” walked away with a decision loss to the Brazilian in 2017.
Since Lawler’s defeat to dos Anjos, he dropped another fight to Ben Askren in UFC 235 in March. The 37-year-old, who is ranked 11th in the welterweight division, has won two of his last five fights since 2016 and is in desperate need of a win.
Lawler (+185) has the knockout punch to pull the upset over Lawler and a two-inch reach advantage (74") over Covington, who matches his opponent in height at 5-foot-11. But Covington has the durability to power through whatever Lawler tries to throw his way and wear down his opposition until it is left to the judges to decide their fate.
While it would be great to see the veteran Lawler pull off a win on Saturday, chances are the younger welterweight will come out victorious via decision.
Aside from the welterweight showdown, UFC on ESPN 5 will feature Jim Miller (-150) vs. Clay Guida (+125) in a lightweight battle in the co-main event. Joaquim Silva (+200) takes on Nasrat Haqparast (-250) at lightweight as well, while Trevin Giles (-170) and Gerald Meerschaert (+140) face off at middleweight.
