MLB Wednesday Preview: Padres at Braves, Orioles at White Sox

Quantrill has a 4.02 ERA in 11 Triple-A starts (pitching in the hitter friendly Pacific Coast League) dating back to 2018. He was tagged for eight runs in his 2019 debut, but pitched to a 2.86 ERA in four subsequent outings. Quantrill could have a leg up on Braves' batters that have yet to face him. He may not go all that deep into the game, but the Padres boast the sixth-best bullpen in the majors by ERA (3.50).
Fried exits his worst effort of 2019, as he allowed four runs in 5 1/3 innings against the Rockies, whom he faced for the second time in a three-week span. Prior to that start, his ERA was a microscopic 1.38. The Braves' bullpen is on the mend after a disastrous start to 2019, currently ranking 17th in ERA at 4.41.

Baltimore Orioles (10-20) at Chicago White Sox (12-14), Game 2, 8:10 p.m. ET
Andrew Cashner (4-1, 4.18 ERA) (BAL) +130 / +1.5 runs (-150) / Over 8.5 runs (-120) Ivan Nova (0-3, 8.42 ERA) (CHW) -145 / -1.5 runs (+125) / Under 8.5 runs (EVEN)The Orioles have the fewest wins in the majors through a month of play, but they hold a significant edge in the starting-pitching matchup in Game 2 of a doubleheader at Guaranteed Rate Field against the White Sox.
Baltimore has won five straight games started by Andrew Cashner, who's allowed just nine earned runs in 28 1/3 innings in those contests. He stymied Chicago's lineup through seven innings April 23, when he allowed just one earned run on five hits and a walk.
Ivan Nova was knocked around for nine runs on 11 hits and three walks in that April 23 affair, surrendering four home runs in the process (four innings). Orioles third baseman Rio Ruiz, second baseman Jonathan Villar and first baseman Chris Davis are a combined 21-for-55 all-time against Nova (.382).
