The Mets and Phillies should not struggle to plate runs Tuesday night at Citizens Bank Park.Walker Lockett will make his second start for the Mets, as Noah Syndergaard continues rehab for a hamstring injury. Lockett can't do much worse than he did at Wrigley Field on Thursday night, when he surrendered six earned runs in 2 1/3 innings. Philadelphia was slumping offensively, and scored just 29 runs in their last 10 contests before Monday night, but their bats broke out against Steven Matz and company en route to a 13-7 victory.
Jake Arrieta will have to negotiate several landmines in the Mets order, including the most recent National League Player of the Week, first baseman Pete Alonso (.427 average with four home runs and eight RBIs last week). Third baseman Todd Frazier, catcher Wilson Ramos and utility man Jeff McNeil are 20-for-49 (.408) combined against Arrieta. New York is just 4-6 in its last 10 contests, but has averaged 5.5 runs per game in that span.
Tampa Bay Rays (45-33) at Minnesota Twins (50-27), 8:10 p.m. ET
Blake Snell (4-6, 4.40 ERA) (TB) -105 / -1.5 runs (+175) / Over 9 runs (-110) Kyle Gibson (7-4, 4.18 ERA) (MIN) -105 / +1.5 runs (-145) / Under 9 runs (-110)MLB Free Play: Twins moneyline
Kyle Gibson and the Twins should take advantage of Blake Snell and the writhing Rays at Target Field.Tampa dropped three of four to Minnesota when these teams met three weeks ago at Tropicana Field. The Rays haven't fared much better in the interim, at 4-9 in their last 13 tilts. Gibson has allowed just nine earned runs in his last five efforts against Tampa (29 2/3 innings), which includes five innings of shutout work against them June 1. The Twins' relievers should live up to their name, as they've pitched to a 2.43 ERA in the last seven days (second in the majors).
Snell has had a disastrous month of June, with a 10.29 ERA. He recorded just one out against the Yankees in his most recent start. Minnesota's lineup loves facing lefties, as they own the league's best batting average against southpaws at .296. The Rays' bullpen has been anything but reliable in the last seven days, with a 5.61 ERA (26th).
