Kyle Hendricks makes his return from the IL (shoulder impingement) on Tuesday night against Joe Musgrove and the Pirates at PNC Park. The hometown team has given Hendricks trouble in the past, so Pittsburgh will be the pick.Hendricks had a 2.50 ERA against the Pirates last season, but was 0-3 with an opponent batting average of .250 (three starts). Pittsburgh was second only to the Red Sox in batting average in June (.288). Outfielder Corey Dickerson, activated from the IL June 8, led the way for the Bucs with a .952 OPS. Pirates prospects Bryan Reynolds and Kevin Newman have never faced this Chicago starter, but they had an OPS of .961 and .844, respectively, last month.
Musgrove went 6 1/3 innings in his only start against the Cubs this season April 11, when he allowed no earned runs on four hits. He was woeful in May (8.10 ERA) but effective in June (3.51 ERA). Shortstop Javier Baez, first baseman Anthony Rizzo and outfielder Kyle Schwarber are just 2-for-31 (.065) combined against Musgrove.
Los Angeles Angels (42-43) at Texas Rangers (46-38), 8:05 p.m. ET
Jose Suarez (2-1, 5.57 ERA) (LAA) +130 / +1.5 runs (-150) / Over 10.5 runs (-115) Mike Minor (8-4, 2.40 ERA) (TEX) -140 / -1.5 runs (+125) / Under 10.5 runs (-105)MLB free play: Rangers moneyline
The Angels and Rangers were supposed to start a four-game series Monday night, but the game was delayed after the death of pitcher Tyler Skaggs. The same pitchers who were listed yesterday, Jose Suarez and Mike Minor, will take the hill Tuesday in Texas.Minor needed just 108 pitches to tame the Tigers on Wednesday, when he tossed nine innings of one-run ball. That helped the southpaw complete an outstanding June, where he had a 1.70 ERA. Minor has dominated the Angels in two prior meetings this season, where he allowed just one earned run in 15 innings.
Suarez surrendered five runs on eight hits and three walks in five innings against the Blue Jays on June 20, his most recent major-league effort. Texas' offense is third in baseball by runs per game at home this year (5.70), so bettors should expect the Rangers lineup to do well in this spot.
