Thursday MLB preview: Brewers at Reds, Angels at Rangers
Milwaukee Brewers (46-41) at Cincinnati Reds (40-44), 2:10 p.m. ET
Brandon Woodruff (10-2, 3.79 ERA) (MIL) -125 / -1.5 runs (+125) / Over 9 runs (-115) Luis Castillo (7-3, 2.47 ERA) (CIN) +115 / +1.5 runs (-150) / Under 9 runs (-105)MLB free play: Reds moneyline first five innings (+105)
Bettors should expect another outstanding start from Luis Castillo at Great American Ball Park on Independence Day.Castillo has a 1.92 ERA in his own building this season (nine starts), where he's allowed opponents to bat .160 against him. Perhaps even more incredible is that Castillo has allowed just two home runs in one of the most hitter friendly stadiums in the majors. That spells trouble for a Milwaukee team that's reliant on the longball (third, 147).
Brandon Woodruff will counter on the mound for the Brewers, and his 2019 road splits are mediocre. He's 2-2 in seven starts outside of Wisconsin with a 4.29 ERA. Cincinnati first baseman Joey Votto has dominated previous matchups with the Mississippi State product, going 5-for-6 with two home runs.
Los Angeles Angels (44-43) at Texas Rangers (46-40), 8:05 p.m. ET
Griffin Canning (3-4, 3.79 ERA) (LAA) +105 / +1.5 runs (-180) / Over 11 runs (-110) Lance Lynn (10-4, 4.00 ERA) (TEX) -115 / -1.5 runs (+150) / Under 11 runs (-110)MLB free play: Rangers moneyline first five innings (-120)
Veteran starter Lance Lynn should win the battle with rookie Griffin Canning at Globe Life Park in Arlington, as the Rangers wrap up an emotional series Thursday night.Lynn is fresh off an eight-inning shutout performance against the Rays on Friday. He had a 2.90 ERA and 0.917 WHIP (six starts, 4-0 record) in June. The Ole Miss product faced the Angels twice in April, and he had a 2.84 ERA in those 12 2/3 innings. All-Star Mike Trout seldom fares well with Lynn, at just 3-for-14 (.214) lifetime.
Canning needed 95 pitches to get through five innings in his first and only encounter with Texas. The results were good (one run on three hits and two walks), but the Rangers' lineup should know what to expect from the young hurler now and will pile up some early runs in their hitter friendly ballpark.
