The starting pitching stats and the wagering trends indicate that betting the Under is the way to go in Thursday afternoon's Giants-Cubs matchup at Wrigley Field.Jeff Samardzija (9-9, 3.54 ERA) will be on the hill for San Francisco, and he has turned in one brilliant start after another since the beginning of July, with a 5-2 record and a 2.09 ERA in his last nine outings. Cubs outfielders Nicholas Castellanos and Kyle Schwarber and shortstop Javier Baez are a combined 1-for-19 (.053) all-time against the Notre Dame product.
Chicago starter Kyle Hendricks (8-9, 3.37 ERA) bounced back from a dreadful start Aug. 10 against the Reds (seven runs and 12 hits allowed over 2 2/3 innings) with a one-run, three-hit effort against the Pirates on Aug. 16. Hendricks has produced a quality start in five of his last six tries. He typically thrives against the Giants. Catcher Buster Posey, shortstop Brandon Crawford and outfielder Alex Dickerson are 6-for-40 (.150) all-time against the former Dartmouth standout.

The Yankees have been kind to Over bettors this season, especially in Masahiro Tanaka's starts. Their lineup should do its part against Tanner Roark (7-8, 4.01 ERA) at Oakland Coliseum on Thursday night.Tanaka (9-6, 4.56 ERA) is a dismal 2-4 with a 6.48 ERA in 11 road starts this year. The Over is 4-1 in his last five efforts away from Yankee Stadium. The Bombers have exceeded the total in 47 of their last 66 road games and 23 of their last 31 overall.
Roark, who owns an inflated 1.391 WHIP on the season, should see plenty of traffic on the bases in this one. New York boasts the best offense in baseball in road games this season (6.36 runs per tilt).
