Monday MLB preview: Mets at Phillies, Dodgers at Diamondbacks
New York Mets (37-41) at Philadelphia Phillies (39-38), 7:05 p.m. ET
Steven Matz (5-5, 4.28 ERA) (NYM) +115 / +1.5 runs (-175) / Over 10 runs (-110) Zach Eflin (6-7, 2.83 ERA) (PHI) -125 / -1.5 runs (+145) / Under 10 runs (-110)MLB free play: Mets moneyline first five innings (+105)
Mets starter Steven Matz was chased without recording an out in his last start at Citizens Bank Park, where he allowed six earned runs April 16. Having already attained a modicum of revenge against the Phillies by holding them to one run on three hits at Citi Field a week later, Matz will try to come out ahead in his personal rubber match Monday night.Matz typically fares well against Philadelphia's top home run hitters, right fielder Bryce Harper and first baseman Rhys Hoskins. Harper has just four hits in 19 at-bats against Matz, while Hoskins has been held to two hits in 13 at-bats (though they were both home runs).
Zach Eflin will start for the Phillies, who are 1-9 in their last 10 games. He was chased by the Mets after he allowed three earned runs in just four innings of work April 23. Shortstop Amed Rosario is 5-for-11 off Eflin all-time. Bettors should probably back the Mets in the first five innings market instead of full-time, as New York's bullpen has pitched to a dreadful 5.23 ERA this season (28th).
Los Angeles Dodgers (54-25) at Arizona Diamondbacks (39-40), 9:40 p.m. ET
Clayton Kershaw (7-1, 2.85 ERA) (LAD) -130 / -1.5 runs (+110) / Over 8.5 runs (-105) Zack Greinke (8-3, 2.91 ERA) (ARZ) +120 / +1.5 runs (-130) / Under 8.5 runs (-115)MLB free play: Dodgers moneyline
The 2019 season has been another fine one for Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw, and he appears to be peaking in June. Zack Greinke and the Diamondbacks aren't pushovers, but they're likely to come up on the short side at Chase Field on Monday night.Kershaw has a 1.67 ERA in four starts this month. In his last eight meetings against Arizona, he is 5-1 with a 2.14 ERA and opponent batting average of .167. Diamondbacks shortstop Nick Ahmed, right fielder David Peralta and center fielder Ketel Marte are just 9-for-49 (.184) combined against the lefty.
Greinke allowed seven runs in 3 2/3 innings in his only start against the Dodgers this year. This wasn't all that surprising, considering his prior 11 starts against his former team, as he pitched to a 4.24 ERA and opponent batting average of .251. Look for National League MVP candidate Cody Bellinger (9-for-22 with a pair of home runs off Greinke) to have another big night in victory.
