MLB Tuesday Preview: Reds at Mets, Padres at Braves

Luis Castillo (3-1, 1.23 ERA) (CIN) -120 / -1.5 runs (+135) / Over eight runs (-110) Jason Vargas (1-1, 7.20 ERA) (NYM) +110 / +1.5 runs (-160) / Under eight runs (-110)The Reds and their fireballing starter, Luis Castillo, appear to have Jason Vargas and the Mets outclassed Tuesday night.
Castillo scattered eight hits when he held the Braves scoreless in six innings of work last time out April 25. His walk rate is a little high through five starts (3.4 per nine innings), but his strikeout rate (10.6 per nine innings) more than makes up for that. Opponents are batting just .168 against Castillo this year.
Vargas has improved over his last two starts, allowing just a pair of runs over 8 2/3 innings, but he had nowhere to go but up after posting a 14.21 ERA in his first three outings of 2019. His WHIP is still a startlingly high 1.933 and he has a .313 batting average against.
Cincinnati has a decided advantage in the relief game as well, as its bullpen ERA is 3.34, currently fourth in the majors. The Mets' relievers have been shaky through the first month of the season, leading to a 5.45 ERA (28th).

Paddack's WHIP through five starts is a miniscule 0.667, and opponents are batting just .112 against him. His most recent outing, against the Mariners and their top-ranked offense, was arguably his best yet. Paddack struck out nine and allowed just one walk and one hit in seven innings April 24.
Teheran is not to be taken lightly though, as he's 4-1 with a 2.90 ERA in his last five starts against San Diego. The Padres are just 27th in the major leagues in batting average this year at .220, and shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. missed Monday night's game with a hamstring issue that's made him a day-to-day proposition.
