The first of three between the Athletics and Indians at Progressive Field on Monday night should be fairly low scoring.

Carlos Carrasco starts for Cleveland, and in his last four efforts against the A's (26 2/3 innings), the opposition is batting just .216 against him. Khris Davis has just one hit in 12 at-bats against Carrasco.

Southpaw Brett Anderson counters for Oakland against an anemic Indians lineup. Cleveland is batting just .230 against lefties this year, 26th in the majors. The Tribe's offensive production in May, while playing some of the worst teams in the league in the Orioles and White Sox for most of the month, has been lacking (20th in runs).

Two of the better offenses in the National League square off against two vulnerable veteran pitchers at Wrigley Field on Monday night.

In three starts this month, Jake Arrieta has pitched to a 5.29 ERA. He'll face a Chicago offense that ranks second in the NL in runs scored in May (89). Cubs catcher Willson Contreras (1.067 OPS) and shortstop Javier Baez (.952 OPS) have done plenty of damage, and third baseman Kris Bryant has amassed eight home runs and 19 RBIs.

Yu Darvish counters for Chicago, and he's also struggled through his first three May outings (5.40 ERA). Lack of control is his Achilles' Heel, as he's walked three or more batters seven times in nine starts this season. Darvish induces plenty of strikeouts to keep himself in games, but the Phillies will give him headaches. They've drawn the fourth-most walks of any NL team this month and have struck out the third-fewest times.
