Expect solid efforts from both Steven Matz and Kevin Gausman on Thursday night, as the New York Mets and Atlanta Braves commence a four-game series at SunTrust Park.
Matz struggled with command (four walks) in his most recent outing but still blanked the Nationals through five innings. He’s allowed just one earned run in his first two starts. In his previous six starts against the Braves, Matz is 3-0 with a 2.88 ERA, and his strikeout/walk ratio is 5.4. He’s held Freddie Freeman and Nick Markakis to seven hits (no home runs) in 30 at-bats.
Gausman posted great stats in five starts at SunTrust Park last year, going 3-0 with a 2.81 ERA and 1.031 WHIP. He pitched seven innings of shutout baseball April 4 against the Marlins in his 2019 debut. New York’s Robinson Cano is 6-for-15 lifetime against Gausman, but he’s currently hitting .200.
