MLB picks: Yankees vs. Rangers, Rockies vs. Padres
Another intriguing Tuesday slate awaits MLB fans and bettors. We’ve crunched the numbers to come up with our two best bets for the evening.
We’ll lead off with a matchup between the New York Yankees and the Texas Rangers. Then we’ll highlight a divisional game pitting the Colorado Rockies against the San Diego Padres.
New York Yankees (22-19) at Texas Rangers (19-24), 8:05 p.m. ET, ESPN
The Yankees’ Tuesday tussle in Texas with the Rangers could turn into a home run derby. Over bettors should act accordingly.
Jameson Taillon starts for New York, and he’s served up eight home runs in 33 1/3 innings of work in 2021. That’s helped inflate his season ERA to 5.40. The Rangers – tied for second in homers hit this month (22) – should be able to take advantage of the situation.
Joey Gallo has a four-bagger in three prior at-bats against Taillon and has clubbed five longballs over the last two weeks of play.

Mike Foltynewicz takes the mound for Texas with an equally-alarming opponent home run rate – he’s been taken deep 11 times through 45 innings of work in 2021. The Bombers are living up to their nickname this year, especially on the road, where they’re third in home runs hit (32).
DJ LeMahieu is the only Yankee batter with prior experience against Foltynewicz, and he’s an impressive 11-for-18 (.611). But the most dangerous bat in the New York order right now is clearly Aaron Judge, who’s second in the majors in round-trippers (12) and hitting .321 in May.
MLB pick: Over
Colorado Rockies (15-27) at San Diego Padres (25-17), 10:10 p.m. ET
When the Rockies’ Austin Gomber and the Padres’ Blake Snell faced off last Wednesday at Coors Field, the Rockies escaped with a 3-2 victory in eight innings (part of a seven-inning doubleheader). Colorado will be hard-pressed to repeat that result at Petco Park on Tuesday night.
Gomber sports some horrendous numbers through five road starts in 2021, as he’s 1-3 with a 7.56 ERA. That does not bode well for him against a San Diego squad that’s won eight of it’s last 10 home games. Jake Cronenworth has solid splits in that span, going 15-for-38 (.395) at the dish.

The Rockies’ bullpen holds a major-league worst 6.08 ERA on the road this season.
Bettors shouldn’t expect Colorado’s bats to pick up the slack, as they’re last in the majors in runs per game on the road (3.06). Opposing starter Blake Snell owns a 2.29 ERA at home this year with a .176 opponent batting average through 19 2/3 innings.
San Diego’s bullpen has been outstanding regardless of venue in 2021, producing an MLB-best 2.79 ERA.
