MLB picks: Twins vs. White Sox, Giants vs. Dodgers

We’ll preview a pair of MLB divisional tilts as we give out our two best bets for Wednesday evening.

Leading off is our look at an AL Central showdown between the Minnesota Twins and the Chicago White Sox. Then we’ll discuss the late-evening NL West matchup pitting the San Francisco Giants against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Minnesota Twins (40-55) at Chicago White Sox (58-37), 8:10 p.m. ET

Bettors should expect a high-scoring series finale between the Twins and White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field on Wednesday night.

Michael Pineda starts for Minnesota, and he brings a 5.40 road ERA into this one. He’s lost both prior starts against Chicago this season, producing a 6.75 ERA and .372 opponent batting average. Tim Anderson is an astounding 12-for-18 (.667) lifetime against Pineda with three home runs, so look for him to drive the South Siders’ offense.

Dylan Cease counters for the White Sox, and he’ll face a Twins team that’s given him trouble in 2021. He owns an inflated 6.06 ERA in three starts against Minnesota this season, giving up four longballs in just 16 1/3 innings of work. The sweet-swinging Nelson Cruz is 6-for-11 (.545) lifetime against Cease, so don’t be surprised if he has a big game on Wednesday.

Trend bettors should note that the Over is 20-8 in Chicago’s last 28 overall, and 13-4 in the White Sox last 17 games against right-handed starters. The Over is also 17-4 in the Twins’ last 21 games as a road underdog.

San Francisco Giants (59-35) at Los Angeles Dodgers (59-37), 10:10 p.m. ET

Logan Webb and the Giants – 10-4 in their last 14 games as a road underdog – should curb Dodgers starter Julio Urias’ three-game winning streak on Wednesday night.

Webb has been eased back into the rotation after missing all of June due to injury, and he’s allowed only one earned run over his first seven frames (two starts). He was sharp in his lone start against L.A. this year on May 29, limiting the Blue Crew to one run over five innings while striking out seven.

San Francisco’s well-regarded bullpen (3.38 ERA, fourth in the majors this season) should pick up the slack for Webb once he departs.

Urias has been tagged for eight runs in only 11 innings of work (two starts) against the Giants in 2021. He’ll have to pitch carefully tor Buster Posey, who already has a home run in this series and is 4-for-12 (.333) lifetime against him.
