Aaron Nola's 6-0 record for the Phillies belies how shaky he's been on the mound this season, so the Padres offer good value as home underdogs.Opponents are batting .272 against Nola this year, and he has a 5.83 ERA in four starts on the road. He'll face a San Diego lineup that is capable of doing damage rapidly. Their power-hitting outfield of Wil Myers, Hunter Renfroe and Franmil Reyes combined for 22 home runs in May. If they can chase Nola early, that will enable the Padres to get after Philadelphia's 24th-ranked bullpen by opponent batting average (.258).
Eric Lauer counters for San Diego, and he's fresh off a one-run, four-hit performance (5 1/3 innings) against the red-hot Yankees on May 28. He's allowed just three earned runs combined in his last three outings and has surrendered no walks. Lauer has been tough for opponents to figure out at home this season, as he's 2-2 with a 2.67 ERA in six starts at Petco Park.
