A Look at Major League Baseball Game Plays for April 1

Baltimore Orioles at Toronto Blue Jays

The Toronto Blue Jays (2-2) have been kind to Under bettors in 2019, going below the total with the Tigers in all four games of their opening series. The trend should continue when the Baltimore Orioles (2-1) head to the Rogers Centre to begin a three-game series on Monday night.

Baltimore’s lineup, projected to be among the worst in baseball this year, managed 14 runs against the Yankees in a stunning series win. This seems unlikely to continue, even against Sean Reid-Foley (2-4, 5.13 ERA in 2018).

The Blue Jays’ bullpen was resilient in their preliminary series with Detroit, pitching to a .211 batting average in 15 innings of work, so they should do their share in keeping this game below nine runs.

David Hess, who pitched two scoreless innings in relief on Opening Day, played to a 3.81 ERA in his final 11 appearances of 2018. In three starts against Toronto last year, Hess went 1-1 with a 0.95 ERA and 0.842 WHIP. The Blue Jays’ hitters have struggled out of the gate, batting .177 through four contests.

New York Mets at Miami Marlins

After taking two of three games from their opening series with the Nationals, the New York Mets (2-1) commence a three-game set with the Miami Marlins (2-2) on Monday night. The Marlins began their initial seven-game home-stand with a split of four games against the Rockies.

Steven Matz has good numbers against Miami, going 3-2 with a 2.82 ERA and a 1.075 WHIP through eight starts. The Marlins’ top hitters have trudged off to a slow start in 2019, as Starlin Castro and Brian Anderson have combined to go 4-for-31 (.129) through four games.

The Mets’ lineup looks much-improved so far, as rookie first baseman Pete Alonso has six hits in his first 12 at-bats. Jeff McNeil, who had a day off on Sunday, picked up where he left off last season by recording four hits in his first nine at-bats of 2019.
