Friday MLB preview: Phillies at Braves, Yankees at White Sox
Philadelphia Phillies (38-30) at Atlanta Braves (40-29), 7:20 p.m. ET
Nick Pivetta (4-1, 4.93 ERA) (PHI) +125 / +1.5 runs (-170) / Over 9.5 runs (-105) Max Fried (7-3, 3.75 ERA) (ATL) -135 / -1.5 runs (+140) / Under 9.5 runs (-115)MLB free play: Phillies moneyline first five innings (+115)
Based on the way Friday night's starters are trending, the Phillies have the upper hand over the Braves at SunTrust Park.Nick Pivetta will be on the hill for Philadelphia, and he's given up just one earned run in his last 15 innings. He's struck out 21 and walked only two in his last three outings. Atlanta left fielder Ronald Acuna Jr. and second baseman Ozzie Albies are just 3-for-24 combined all-time against Pivetta.
Max Fried's stats continue to head south, as he has a 5.82 ERA and 1.754 WHIP in his last four starts. Scott Kingery (1.010 OPS in June), Jay Bruce (1.201 OPS) and J.T. Realmuto (.924 OPS) are all swinging hot bats for the Phillies.
Bettors must be wary of the Phillies' bullpen, which has posted the worst fielding independent pitching in baseball over the last two weeks (7.14). The wisest course of action is to grab Philadelphia in the first five innings market and avoid the late-game headache.
New York Yankees (41-26) at Chicago White Sox (33-34), 8:10 p.m. ET
C.C. Sabathia (3-3, 3.96 ERA) (NYY) -110 / +1.5 runs (-225) / Over 8.5 runs (-120) Lucas Giolito (9-1, 2.28 ERA) (CHW) EVEN / -1.5 runs (+185) / Under 8.5 runs (EVEN)MLB free play: White Sox moneyline
The White Sox are in good position to post a mild upset win at home over the Yankees on Friday night.C.C. Sabathia has a 4.78 ERA in his last six starts and has pitched beyond the fifth inning just twice in that span. He's giving up home runs in bunches—2.4 per nine innings to be exact—and Sabathia will have to pitch carefully to left fielder Eloy Jimenez, who has three homers in his last five games.
Lucas Giolito has been a revelation for Chicago. Since the calendar flipped to May, Giolito has a 1.28 ERA (eight starts) and a 5.5 strikeout/walk ratio. The White Sox are undefeated behind him in this span.
