It's a battle for NL East bragging rights tonight as the Phillies host the Mets at Citizens Bank Park. Meanwhile, over in the American League, The Red Sox put their two-game winning streak on the line against the floundering Angels.

The Phillies will look to pile on the free-falling Mets, losers of six straight, when they send Aaron Nola (12-4, 3.53 ERA) to the hill against Zack Wheeler (9-7, 4.46 ERA) on Friday night at Citizens Bank Park.
Nola owns a 2.73 ERA in the month of August with a 0.879 WHIP (five starts). He’s been highly-effective at home this year, going 6-1 with a 2.94 ERA in 16 starts. Nola has flummoxed the Mets’ hitters in the past, including outfielder Michael Conforto (4-for-26 all-time) and third baseman Todd Frazier (0-for-15).

Wheeler owns a ghastly 6.75 ERA over his last three starts with a miserable 1.00 strikeout/walk ratio. His opponent batting average for the season jumps from .237 at home to .277 on the road, so expect the Phillies to generate plenty of early traffic on the bases.

Jose Suarez, a 21-year-old rookie, has given L.A. little reason for optimism based on his 0-3 record at home this year with a 6.93 ERA. Things aren’t improving either, as his ERA in August is 9.18. Opponents are batting over .300 against the Venezuela native since he made his big league debut on June 9. Look for the Red Sox lineup, fourth in OPS this month, to do some serious damage at Angels Stadium.
