New York is coming off a two-game losing streak in its series with St. Louis, with 10-2 and 6-4 losses Saturday and Sunday. The Phillies won a single game in their four-game series at Colorado and hope to get back on the winning trail behind Jake Arrieta, who is on a two-win streak. The 2015 Cy Young Award winner is 3-3 lifetime against New York with a 2.33 ERA, while Matz is 0-3 against the Phillies with a 5.96 ERA.

The Phillies are 7-1 in their last eight versus a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30 and 5-2 in their last seven games against a left-handed starter. They also own a 4-1 advantage over the Mets in their last five games, while the Mets are 0-4 in Matz’s last four starts against the Phillies.

The battle of the NL East's top two teams should be close, but the Phillies boast a better bullpen and should produce the scoring necessary to take the win on the road.

Kansas City Royals (+150) at Tampa Bay Rays (-165), 7:10 p.m. ET

The AL East-leading Rays take on a losing team in Kansas City in the first contest of their three-game series at Tropicana Field. The 14-8 Rays opened the season winning three of four against Houston to propel a five-game win streak, a mark the Rays have accomplished twice so far this season. In their last four they’ve lost as many games, after dropping their last clash against Baltimore and getting swept by the Red Sox. Kansas City makes for an enticing Monday opponent who should allow Tampa Bay to get back in the win column.

The Royals are 2-8 away from home on the season and 0-4 in the last four meetings at Tampa Bay, as well as 0-8 in the last eight overall against the Rays. Royals starter Brad Keller pitched one scoreless inning against the Rays last year. He’s gone 2-1 with a 2.64 ERA, 26 strikeouts and 17 walks in 30 2/3 innings in the 2019 season.

Tampa Bay’s Yonny Chirinos is back in the starting lineup after two games out of the bullpen. The right-hander earned two wins to start the year, allowing one run on four hits in 12 total innings. In 19 1/3 innings, he’s 3-0 with a 3.26 ERA and 19 strikeouts. He should create a challenge for the Royals lineup, which set a franchise record for strikeouts Sunday with 20 against the Yankees.

MLB Free Pick: Tampa Bay Rays

Minnesota Twins (+155) at Houston Astros (-170), 8:10 p.m. ET

MIN pitcher: Jake Odorizzi (R), 1-2, 4.76 ERA HOU pitcher: Brad Peacock (R), 2-0, 3.94 ERA

World Series favorite Houston hosts Minnesota at Minute Maid Park for Game 1 of their three-game set. The 12-7 Twins are on a three-game win streak and own a 7-3 away record on the year. Minnesota pitcher Jake Odorizzi achieved his first win of the season Wednesday, when he held Toronto to one run on six hits with six strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings. Against the Astros he is 3-1 with a 2.12 ERA, 15 walks and 32 strikeouts in five lifetime starts. At Minute Maid Park, he is 0-1 with a 5.06 ERA, five walks and 13 strikeouts over 10 2/3 innings.

On the mound for Houston, Brad Peacock is back in a starting role after two games in relief. This season he is 2-0 with a 3.94 ERA, three walks and 15 strikeouts over 16 innings. In his last seven home starts, the Astros are 6-1, while they’re 4-1 in his last five starts with four days of rest. Last year Peacock came out of the bullpen four times against Minnesota to allow one run in 3 1/3 innings.

Minnesota is 4-1 SU in its last five road games but 1-8 in Odorizzi’s last nine road starts. The Twins are 3-12 in the last 15 meetings against Houston and 0-4 in the last four games at the Astros.

The Astros have yet to lose at home this season. Look for the trend to continue on Monday.
