Boston Red Sox Most Profitable in Season Win Projections
The Boston Red Sox improved to 86-35 SU with their 5thstraight road win Tuesday. Boston is on pace to win 114 games and shatter the franchise regular season win record of 105 victories, after being given a season win total of 91.5 prior to the MLB betting season. Incredibly, the BoSox have lost back-to-back games just once since June 20th, and they are in rarefied air playing better than .700 baseball.
The other top teams before the season started that were projected to have strong seasons and make the playoffs were the LA Dodgers (96.5), Chicago Cubs (94.5), and in the American League's Houston Astros (96.5), New York Yankees (94.5) and Cleveland Indians (94.5).
Four of those teams lead their divisions, and the LA Dodgers are just 2-games behind in the NL West with Arizona and Colorado just 1-game apart on top. The NY Yankees (75-44) have the second-best record in baseball and are also projected to win more than 100 games at current pace (103). The Yankees have the most 100-win seasons (19) of any team in baseball, and they reached the World Series 15 times in those seasons, winning 12 championships during that stretch. The American League is loaded with top teams, and New York will have to survive a wild card play-in game and then advance through the playoffs against the strongest teams to make the World Series.
The LA Dodgers (64-57) will not go over their season win total projection (unless they win 33 of their final 41 games), and the Cubs (68-50) will have to win 27 of their final 44 games to eclipse 94.5 season wins. The defending World Champion Houston Astros (73-47) need 24 wins in their final 42 games to reward ‘over’ season win bettors, but the Astros are on pace for 99 wins despite 9-straight home losses including its current 5-game losing streak. The Cleveland Indians (68-51) are cruising to another AL Central title and are on pace for 93 wins; just below their season win total projection.
The season win totals are only meaningful for bettors, and the Dodgers struggles this season and failures to reach projections has resulted in inflated lines and significant losses. Los Angeles is down more than 26-units in money line wagers – worst in the National League. Boston is the best in baseball for money-line bettors, as the Red Sox have hit a grand slam with more than 33-unit of profit. Bettors have gone to the bank with Boston, but the slate is wiped clean when the playoffs begin.
